DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe gross motion of a ballistic rocket following a zero-lift trajectory during both powered flight and re-entry is discussed with special reference to the importance of the appropriate dimensionless parameters. Approximate solutions are found for the tip-over maneuver, low- and high-altitude powered flight, and re-entry. Of the greatest significance to the rocket dynamicist is that all the above solutions are related to confluent hypergeometric functions with have been used to describe short-period motion in the literature.
