Excerpt from d104-Book of Gynecology: Designed for the Student and General Practititioner In presenting this book to the profession a word of explana tion, and, perhaps, of apology, is appropriate. During the eleven years that it has been my privilege to fill the Chair of Gynecology in the State University of Iowa, I have seriously felt the need of a text-book for students that would be systematic in its arrangements, concise in its details, and cover the entire list of diseases comprehended by the term gynecology together with their homeopathic therapeutics. After long waiting in the hope that some one better qualified would assume the un enviable task of preparing such a work, I have, at the earnest solicitation of students and professional friends, taken it upon myself to make the attempt, and the present volume is the result of my labors. That I have presented nothing strikingly new or original is probably true, but I have endeavored to collate only from recognized authorities, and to include the very latest that is known regarding the pathology and treatment of gynecological diseases. In covering the topic of gynecologic and obstetric pathology, this book attempts to carve out its own niche midway between an atlas and a traditional textbook. The gross and microscopic images in this atlas are presented exclusively in color, and are supplemented by pertinent clinical information and discussions of differential diagnostic considerations. When deemed appropriate, images of immunohistochemical and special stains are included. To further enhance their visual appeal and the overall learning experience, many images in this book are presented with annotations and/or in composite form, and selected images have been enlarged. This image-intensive textbook also includes numerous Pap smear images and cytologic-histologic correlations. In addition to coverage of pathology of the organs of the female genital tract, brief overviews of the normal histology of these sites are provided as necessary background information. Separate chapters are also devoted to placental and peritoneal pathology. There is an emphasis on diagnostic-related issues pertaining to common lesions and their variants, although classic forms of rare lesions are also presented. In selected instances, recommendations on the processing of gross pathology specimens, discussions regarding the optimal approach for intraoperative consultations, and recommendations on the phrasing of key portions of pathology reports are provided. The 10 chapters of this book are organized by site, and the beginning of each chapter lists the entities discussed and their corresponding page numbers.

Excerpt from A Text-Book on the Practice of Gynecology: For Practitioners and Students I have considered fully both the medical and surgical aspects of gynecology, and have discussed each subject so far as possible upon the basis of my own experience. If a multiplicity of methods or operations is given for the treatment of a disease, the results must be unsatisfactory, as such a description is at best incomplete or fragmentary in character and leaves the reader with an imperfect conception of the subject. I have therefore in each instance given that which in my judgment is the best plan of treatment, and afterward described such variations as may be required in the management of atypical cases. In follow ing this plan it has been necessary to exclude certain operations and methods of treatment employed by other surgeons, and I do not wish to be misunderstood as implying that they have no value, as I have been guided solely by the desire to present a treatise which shall give a thoroughly detailed account of the practice of gynecology from the standpoint of the general practitioner and the student of medicine. The book is unusually large for a work on gynecology, but it was impossible to lessen the number of pages and at the same time give the necessary technic details and space for the large number of illustrations. Excerpt from The Diagnosis of Diseases of Women IT has been the endeavor of the author to write a work on the Diagnosis of Diseases of \vomen that will be equally adapted to the needs of student and practitioner, and in line with the most modern views. The recognition of the pathology of the pelvic organs in large measure constitutes a diagnosis. Because of this fundamental fact the author has deemed it desirable to incorporate a thorough discussion of the morbid anatomy, both macroscopic and micros00pic, and to point out its clinical indications. Special stress has been placed upon the microscopic diagnosis of the various lesions, not alone on account of its scientific interest, but also, and more particularly, because of its great clinical importance. Without the microscope a diagnosis is not always possible. Medical literature in the English language has not hitherto included a work on this subject. In the effort to supply this desideratum the author has aimed to satisfy the requirements of those who have felt the need of more comprehensive and prac tical information than can be given in the general text - books on gynecology. It is hoped that this work will be serviceable to those who do not have access to foreign literature. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Clinical Gynecology The series of clinical lectures which comprise this monograph were delivered at various times to the senior class of the Cleve land-pulte Medical College, there being present in nearly all instances students and practitioners of the dominant school of medicine. Some of the lectures have previously appeared in print. They were stenographically reported and, later, edited. In the process of editing the writer has introduced from his records illustrative cases which were not presented in the clinic whenever by so doing it was possible better to emphasize the subject under consideration. It will be noted that nearly all the subjects dealt with are border-land subj ects, and should, therefore, interest the internist as well as the surgeon.
