Excerpt from Telephone Lines and Their Properties Fully realizing the meagreness of the available literature on the subject of telephone lines, I have written the following chapters in the hope that my experience may prove of benefit to others. I have not attempted to go into the subject of line construction in any detail; but as its omission would have cleft the book incomplete, I have given an outline of the methods of design and construction. I hope that the applied mechanics of line construction may be fully treated in the near future by someone fully competent to do so in the light of personal experience. The subject of exchanges has been taken up principally to round out the scope of the book; and for much of the matter under this head I am indebted to the writings of Messrs. A. S. Hibbard, F. A. Pickernell, and J. J. Carty. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
