DOWNLOAD EBOOKSurrey's architecture is a constantly surprising mix of the rural and urban with many of its most important buildings, such as the seventeenth-century Ham House, found amongst the outgrowth of London itself. The landscape gardens of Painshill and Claremont attest to Surrey's popularity in the eighteenth century and the county's enthusiasm for follies and remarkable garden buildings. More recent architecture includes notable early works by Lutyens, with gardens by Gertrude Jekyll, inspired by the rich stock of late medieval farmhouses and tile-hung cottages in the county's southern villages. Among interwar suburban housing there are some exceptional Modernist homes, such as The Homewood by Patrick Gwynne. Church architecture in Surrey includes work by all of the great names of the Gothic Revival; not least of its surprises is the luminous and spacious interior of Guildford Cathedral.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe dialect of the English county of Surrey was recorded towards the end of the Victorian age by the antiquarian Granville Leveson Gower in a volume for the English Dialect Society. This present Dictionary makes available a new edition of his work, along with materials setting out the characteristics, history and current position of Surrey English. Today little remains of the traditional Surrey dialect, though those familiar with the county will nonetheless find echoes of it in the speech of many present inhabitants. In recent years the dialect has influenced the speech patterns of the Home Counties, and the new southern English standard has been influential worldwide. Surrey English has its place as one of the many distinctive forms of English worldwide, with its own unique words and forms of expression which are part of the rich heritage of the English language.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWhen 27-year-old Sarah Levy opened her own pastry shop in 2004, she was barely out of college. She hails from a noted Chicago-based restaurant dynasty, but the success she's achieved has been all hers, and she's since gone on to open a second location inside Macy's. Sweetness shows how anyone can make delicious desserts and sweet snacks regardless of cooking experience (or lack thereof) — especially younger women who may not have a lot of kitchen training, but want to have a few go-to recipes for events, gifts, or that special someone. This is the book for readers who want to learn how to make top-quality treats that will knock the socks off anyone who samples them. Levy’s warm personality, step-by-step instructions, and vibrant color photos make this the perfect addition to the bookshelf of both budding chefs and seasoned pros.
