DOWNLOAD EBOOKMeasurements on surface current drift off Oregon and Washington were made in March 1964 through February 1966 with plastic drift cards dropped from Coast Guard planes at selected points. Results show pronounced surface drift to the north in winter and to the south in spring, each drift associated with a strong wind flow. From April to late in the fall the drift is variable; during this period drift cards were returned showing surface drift opposite to wind flow, indicating that wind direction and intensity are not necessarily indications of surface current flow.
