"The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is undertaking a 1.27-mile long project to extend Frontier Drive from Franconia-Springfield Parkway (Route 289) to Loisdale Road adding braided ramps. In 2018, on behalf of the VDOT, Commonwealth Heritage Group conducted a phase I cultural resources survey of the area of potential effect (APE) for this project that included limited historic background research, a reconnaissance architectural survey, and an archaeological survey. In 2021, VDOT made changes to the APE and Commonwealth conducted a supplemental phase I cultural resources survey for areas within the revised APE."--Page i.

"The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is planning to undertake a 5.6-mile long project to widen the Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) between Interstate 66 (I-66) and Ox Road (Route 123) from four lanes to six lanes, including grade-separated interchanges in the vicinity of Popes Creek Road intersection and a portion of Shirley Gate Road extension ... On behalf of VDOT, Commonwealth conducted a supplemental archaeological survey to test an extension of the APE [area of potential effect] along Popes Head Road, west of the Fairfax County Parkway, to Quiet Brook Road ... One previously recorded site falls within the APE extension. Site 44FX1732 is prehistoric Native-American site of an unknown time period that contained an unidentified quartz projectile point fragment and quartz debitage. In 1997, the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (VDHR) determined the site to be not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the investigation was to determine the presence or absence of significant archaeological resources within the APE, to the extent possible, evaluate the significance of any deposits and/or features that might be discovered"--Introduction, page 1.

"The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is undertaking an approximately 3.2-mile-long project to improve Braddock Road (Route 620) from Humphries Drive to Ravensworth Road in Fairfax County, Virginia, in order to address anticipated traffic congestion due to increased vehicular demand, and to improve bicycle and pedestrian access and safety along the corridor. The Area of Potential Effects (APE) is the area with potential for direct and indirect effects to cultural resources. In 2021, on behalf of the VDOT, Commonwealth Heritage Group (Commonwealth) conducted a cultural resources survey of the approximately 175.5-acre APE (Goode et al. 2021). In 2022, Commonwealth conducted supplemental archaeological investigations on behalf of the VDOT to address revisions to the direct effects APE which was revised to approximately 176.5 acres at that time (Goode and Goode 2022). In 2024, on behalf of VDOT, Commonwealth conducted a second supplemental archaeological investigation to address additional revisions to the direct effects APE, which was revised to approximately 177.2 acres, based on concepts dated October 19, 2023."--
