DOWNLOAD EBOOKStumbling Blocks and Stepping-Stones is a two-volume publication which vigorously examines Mormonism's long struggle with those it has traditionally deemed as sexually and gender transgressive -- its LGBTI members. It emboldens Latter-day Saints and fellow Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex, believing or disaffected, to dialogue with one another and consider the very real possibility of their full acceptance within the beloved faith community. It makes five enormous contributions: (1)It analyzes the "clobber scriptures" -- those most frequently used to end conversations on the topic -- drawing on a broad spectrum of Jewish, Christian, and academic scholars. The book provides connatural context and reasonable interpretations that broaden the discussion beyond "because God said so."(2)It provides a stimulating overview of scientific research on homosexuality in nature (severely undercutting the "homosexuality isn't natural" argument), what's currently known about the causes/influence on homosexuality, and the history of homophobia that has brought us to our current position. (3)It argues, persuasively, in my opinion, for ways in which the gospel can and does (and the church could and should) include lgbti members in full fellowship. (4)The longest section--part 4--provides a history of interactions between the church and its lgbti members. Because of my love for history, this is my favorite section, even though a lot of it seems like "baby step forward, giant step backwards," especially now. (5)The tone models a combination of compassion, serious scholarship, and firmly founded discipleship that should be elements that govern how the dialogue can and should be conducted.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAs a faithful follower of Christ and a man who wants everyone everywhere to know the glory of God and be saved - I want you to shine. I want you to shine brighter with the good news of Jesus Christ and how He's changed you. I want you to shine more brightly than you have every shone in your life. And I'm going to use a post-resurrection experience to accomplish this task. I want to do this in order to lead you on a path to spiritual renewal in your life. Throughout this book, I am chiefly going to use the post-resurrection experiences of one disciple. His name is Simon Peter. The reason I am going to use Simon Peter, later referred to as Peter, is because fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead, this man stood in Jerusalem and preached the most powerful message he had ever preached in his life and 3,000 people got saved. The Bible says that the power is in the gospel, and when someone speaks its truth, there is power that is coming from that person's voice. Just remember, the Holy Spirit is the one who regenerates people. He was at work in all those who heard the gospel that day. I know exactly what this is like, because I too have had the privilege of displaying His power, have you? It was the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that captivated and convicted the hearts and minds of those people in Jerusalem that day. So much so that they knew they needed to do something different - they needed to change.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWas Joseph as a spoiled brat who loved to lord it over his brothers and pretty much got what he deserved? Was he a wise determined young man who did everything he could to end his familys sad history of deception and dysfunction? Was he simply as an innocent victim of the twists and turns of life? Were the events in his life chance happenings, so all he could do was make the best of it? Or were they results of his choices - or Gods choices - or both? Could it be that what happens to us is meant to affect what happens in us? Could it be that the events of our lives are invitations from God to enter into partnership with Him? Do our choices and Gods choices somehow work in partnership to move us through the tough times into the next chapter of our life story?

DOWNLOAD EBOOKRecognized as one of the most influential pastors in the country, John Ed Mathison along with Willie Spears challenge readers with one simple question: Bib or Apron? The same way we choose paper or plastic at the grocery store, we make a daily choice to serve or be served. We chose to wear a bib or apron. Those who wear a bib are asking others to serve them like a baby. Those who wear an apron are seeking out someone to serve.
