In his composition Srī Rāmacaritamānasa, Gosvāmi Tulasīdāsa declares that the Rāma kathā is most profound; many are the gems hidden in it. The monkey-god Hanuman, one of contemporary Hinduism's most popular deities, has a long history in Indian art and literature.
