Her book Feminism and the Mastery of Nature (1992) has become a classic. In 1985 she was attacked by a crocodile while kayaking alone in the Kakadu national park in the Northern Territory. She was death rolled three times before being released from the crocodile’s jaws. She crawled for hours through swamp with appalling injuries before being rescued. The experience made her well placed to write about cultural responses to death and predation. The remaining chapters are previously published papers brought together to form an overview of Val’s ideas on death, predation and nature.

After his father's heart attack in 1984, Peter Godwin began a series of pilgrimages back to Zimbabwe, the land of his birth, from Manhattan, where he now lives. On these frequent visits to check on his elderly parents, he bore witness to Zimbabwe's dramatic spiral downwards into the jaws of violent chaos, presided over by an increasingly enraged dictator. And yet long after their comfortable lifestyle had been shattered and millions were fleeing, his parents refuse to leave, steadfast in their allegiance to the failed state that has been their adopted home for 50 years. Then Godwin discovered a shocking family secret that helped explain their loyalty. Africa was his father's sanctuary from another identity, another world. When a Crocodile Eats the Sun is a stirring memoir of the disintegration of a family set against the collapse of a country. But it is also a vivid portrait of the profound strength of the human spirit and the enduring power of love.

Benedict Allen travelled through Papua New Guinea in search of a tribe that would let him participate in an initiation ceremony into manhood. He was finally admitted to the ceremonies of the Sepik tribe, whose totemic god is the crocodile. With fifteen other young males, Allen was secluded from the village in a large nest-like enclosure. Crocodile marks were carved onto their bodies with sharpened bamboo. Grey mud was applied to stop the blood-flow from their wounds, and they were beaten every day for six weeks. This book is the story of Allen's initiation experiences - a tale of love, community through shared pain and of sudden death.

"I picked it up out of curiosity and I couldn’t put it down."--Eugene Peterson Christians are comfortable saying that Christianity is about a relationship with God. Yet many might also say that they sense little meaningful relationship with God in their own lives. After all, the foundation of good relationship is communication—-but conversation with God often seems to go only one way. We may sing of walking and talking with God in the garden, His voice falling on our ears, but few have heard that beloved voice themselves. Sam Williamson acknowledges the fundamental human longing to hear God’s voice and offers a hopeful supposition: God is always speaking—-we’ve just never been taught how to recognize His voice. Williamson handles this potentially heady topic with his characteristic straightforwardness and leavening humor. This book deftly bridges the gap between solid biblical theology and practical application, addressing topics such as how to truly pray without ceasing, how to brainstorm with God, how to navigate our emotions, how to answer God’s questions, and how to hear God’s voice for others. Hearing God in Conversation offers simple, step-by-step lessons on how to hear God. Williamson begins with Scripture meditation. He then expands the practice of listening for that voice everywhere—in the checkout line, on the job, in a movie theater, and even in silence. From there, he demonstrates how to hear God’s guidance when making any decision. By the end, readers’ eyes and ears will be opened to the limitless methods through which God speaks.

2nd Edition of "Defeating the Leviathan Spirit" In this 2nd Edition book I take a closer look at the strange fire of Leviathan and how its spreading like a wildfire in the Charismatic Church. I am a Charismatic Christian myself, but we must test the spirits also, and not assume everything that is spiritual is of the Holy Spirit. In addition, I've written a new chapter examining the Trump presidency and how it is being effected by the Leviathan spirit. I also provide guidance for how Christians should respond to the scandals and how we should pray. For too long the spirit of Leviathan has remained hidden. Even when he is exposed he manages to pass from our memory and retreat back into the dark. This spirit is like a crocodile and remains hidden until a opportunity to strike comes.Wherever this spirit works there are arguments breaking out and reconciliation seems to be impossible when this spirit is lurking around behind the scenes. Jesus Christ is shining His light upon this elusive spirit once again. Through this book you will learn the character traits of this evil spirit. One whole chapter is dedicated to this evil spirit. That chapter is Job 41 and it is full of metaphorical language. I will interpret this cryptic chapter for you so that you can understand this spirit. Each verse will be examined in detail. In addition, you will see how this spirit influences global events. At the end of the book there is a prayer to break the curses of pride/Leviathan, plus there is a self-deliverance prayer to cast out lesser Leviathan spirits and any demons related to this spirit. Leviathan is the king over all the children of pride. Many Christians unknowingly serve Leviathan as king through the sin of pride. It is time to leave Leviathan's kingdom and rededicate our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ and His kingdom. After you have read this book you will know how to defeat Leviathan as an individual and as a church. It is my hope that pastors get a hold of this book so they can break the grip of this spirit off their congregations. May God expose this spirit to you and give you the grace and power needed to defeat it.
