This report considers the progress made by the Republic of Moldova to implement the recommendations of the first review (1998, ISBN 9211166926) in relation to environmental management issues, as well as discussing a number of key themes including policymaking, planning and implementation, including compliance and enforcement mechanisms; financing issues; integration of environmental concerns in economic sector policy and the promotion of sustainable development, including environmental management in agriculture, forestry and industrial activities.
The report details the progress made by Belarus in the management of its environment since the country was first reviewed in 1997. Among the issues receiving special attention during the review were: compliance and enforcement mechanisms; information, public participation and education; and environmental management in industry, energy, transport, agriculture and ecotourism.
Belgium has made progress in decoupling several environmental pressures from economic growth, in improving wastewater treatment and in expanding protected areas. Regions have achieved high levels of recovery and recycling, and have pioneered circular economy policies. However, further efforts are needed to progress towards carbon neutrality, reduce air and water pollution, reverse biodiversity loss and consolidate results of circular economy initiatives.
