Excerpt from Second Biennial Report of the New Hampshire: Forestry Commission The gratifying and stimulating increase of general interest in the subject of forest preservation in New Hampshire, which this board has had occasion to note each year, has continued since the date of the last report, and the indications point to still wider cc-operation among the various parties in interest. The present period in the forestry movement in the United States is one of primary education and agitation, with advance toward practical application of the underlying principles to be noted in a few localities, both by public and by private means. In New Hampshire, however, the movement is still in the educational stage, though with some enterprises to be noted later actually on foot to make actual tests of the value of a. Rational forest policy to the public and to the individual. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Fifteenth Report (Second Biennial) Of the State Board of Health of the State of New Hampshire: For the Two Years Ending November 1, 1898 Herewith is presented the fifteenth report of the State Board of Health, the same being the second biennial report, for the fiscal years 1897 and 1898. It is made in accordance with the policy announced in the previous issues, to wit: that the reports should be made a source of sanitary instruc tion to the people of the state, rather than to encumber them with technical, scientific, and statistical matter, valuable only to those who are making investigations along those lines. We have, therefore, included and discussed matters of general public interest, and have endeavored to make the same as inter esting and as plain as possible. Indeed, this report contains less statistical matter than any of the former issues. Those who are especially interested in vital statistical investigations will find every available fact in the Registration Reports. A few statistics are herewith presented that serve to emphasize the need of, or the results of, preventive measures in certain diseases. The report represents only in a very small degree the actual work of the board, inasmuch as all correspondence, action in certain local cases, etc., etc., is omitted in order to give place to matter of greater public interest. Over the Threshold is the first in-depth work to explore the topic of intimate violence in the American colonies and the early Republic. The essays examine domestic violence in both urban and frontier environments, between husbands and wives, parents and children, and masters and slaves. This compelling collection puts commonly held notions about intimate violence under strict historical scrutiny, often producing surprising results.
