The results of a search for W boson pair production in p[bar p] collisions at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV with subsequent decay to dilepton (e[mu], ee, and[mu][mu]) channels are presented. One event is observed with an expected background of 0.56[plus-minus] 0.13 events with an integrated luminosity of approximately 14 pb[sup[minus]1]. Assuming equal strengths for the WWZ and WW[gamma] gauge boson coupling parameters[kappa] and[lambda], limits on the CP-conserving anomalous coupling constants are[minus]2.6

This Letter describes the current most precise measurement of the W boson pair production cross section and most sensitive test of anomalous WW[gamma] and WWZ couplings in p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The WW candidates are reconstructed from decays containing two charged leptons and two neutrinos, where the charged leptons are either electrons or muons. Using data collected by the CDF II detector from 3.6 fb−1 of integrated luminosity, a total of 654 candidate events are observed with an expected background contribution of 320 ± 47 events. The measured total cross section is [sigma](p{bar p} 2!WW− + X) = 12.1 ± 0.9 (stat){sub -1.4}{sup +1.6} (syst) pb, which is in good agreement with the standard model prediction. The same data sample is used to place constraints on anomalous WW[gamma] and WWZ couplings.

The authors present the results of a search for W′ boson decaying to electron-neutrino pairs in p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, using a data sample corresponding to 205 pb−1 of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector at Fermilab. They observe no evidence for this decay mode and set limits on the production cross section times branching fraction, assuming the neutrinos from W′ boson decays to be light. If they assume the manifest left-right symmetric model, they exclude a W′ boson with mass less than 788 GeV/c2 at the 95% confidence level.

Zusammenfassung: In this thesis, measurements of the W boson pair production cross section in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV are presented. A dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 22.3 /fb recorded by the ATLAS experiment in the year 2012 is used. The W bosons are identified by their decay products of exactly two leptons with opposite electrical charge, electrons or muons, and missing transverse momentum induced by their corresponding neutrinos. First, a measurement restricted to final states without hadronic jets is presented and differential fiducial cross sections, total cross sections and limits on anomalous triple gauge boson couplings are obtained. A second measurement of the fiducial cross section in association with exactly one hadronic jet is presented. The ratio of fiducial cross sections for different jet multiplicities is reported and the combined fiducial cross section is extrapolated to the total phase space.

The cross section for the production and subsequent decay of the W Intermediate Vector boson to electron and neutrino has been measured in .sqrt.s = 1.8 TeV /bar p/p collisions using the CDF Collider Detector at Fermilab. For this measurement, W events were identified from the large missing transverse energy associated with the unseen neutrino and an electromagnetic cluster passing rather loose electron criteria. 22 events passing the selection missing transverse energy greater than 25 GeV and electron transverse energy greater than 15 GeV were observed in a sample of 25nb/sup /minus/1/ yielding a sigma /center dot/ B = 2.6 ± 0.6 ± 0.5nb. This report agrees well with a parallel analysis based primarily on the identification of isolated electron and is in excellent agreement with theoretical predictions. 12 refs., 7 figs.

We present a measurement of the W boson production charge asymmetry using the W → e[nu] decay channel. We use data collected the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) from p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV. The data were collected up to February 2006 (Run II) and represent an integrated luminosity of 1 fb−1. The experimental measurement of W production charge asymmetry is compared to higher order QCD predictions generated using MRST2006 and CTEQ6 parton distribution functions (PDF). The asymmetry provides new input on the momentum fraction dependence of the u and d quark parton distribution functions (PDF) within the proton over the fraction of proton's momentum range from 0.002
