A royal prince, Higbee, a young Snowy Owl from the Arctic tundra, arrives in a town on the Atlantic Sea. He’s not aware, but a deadly winter storm is on the way. His life could be in serious danger. Quinn, the noble leader of a blackbird flock, enlists the help of four little brothers—Jacob, Landon, Owen, and Harrison—to help save Higbee’s life with a whole cast of characters including Sofie, a house mouse; Mother Moon; a striper fish named Gabriel; and a jar of fireflies. The kids use their sailboat, a gift from their grandfather, to attempt to whisk Higbee away to a safe place. Saving Higbee, a picture book for children, shares an adventure story while teaching about gratitude, friendship, and love.
Saving More Than Seeds advances understandings of seed-people relations, with particular focus on seed saving. The practice of reusing and exchanging seeds provides foundation for food production and allows humans and seed to adapt together in dynamic socionatural conditions. But the practice and its practitioners are easily taken for granted, even as they are threatened by neoliberalisation. Combining original ethnographic research with investigation of an evolving corporate seed order, this book reveals seed saving not only as it occurs in fields and gardens but also as it associates with genebanking, genetic engineering, intellectual property rights, and agrifood regulations. Drawing on diverse social sciences literatures, Phillips illustrates ongoing practices of thinking, feeling, and acting with seeds, raising questions about what seed-people relations should accomplish and how different ways of relating might be pursued to change collective futures.
THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE SAFE, BUT THAT WAS A LIE ... Hollis Palmer thought that stopping the aliens from blowing up Austin and rescuing Mia would leave him free to live his life in peace – at least as much peace as could be expected from a world suddenly overrun with aliens. But the aliens have other plans. All around him, Hollis is finding people whose brains have been zapped by the invaders, and now they are little more than zombies. The whole thing seems to be centered on the nearly ubiquitous Astral app that first predicted their arrival. Now, Hollis and Mia must face their final – and hardest – task yet: They will have to save not just each other or their home city but the entire world. ★★★★★ "The story is fast-paced and the characters are engrossing. The dialog is great and there are even parts that are a bit funny, especially with Hollis and his smart-mouthing. You don't necessarily have to read the books in the original "Invasion" series, though there are some references that take on a bit more meaning if you have. I highly recommend this book and other books written by Platt and Truant." -- DBStevens ★★★★★ "These guys always come up with stuff that makes me wonder: How does one even think up something like that! This book smartly pulls together this story and the original series and also wraps up with a very satisfying conclusion (while still leaving the door open for us to see Hollis and Mia again)! I definitely recommend it!" -- SLE ★★★★★ "This is the last book in the trilogy. I really enjoyed and loved this last book. The aliens, the bad guys who hate Hollis. This story is fast paced and so entertaining. I so recommend this book." -- Shirley ★★★★★ "This book was so good. It has a little of everything alien style. The main characters are great. It ties into the invasion series but you don't have to of read those books to enjoy this." -- Kindle Customer Save the World is the epic conclusion to the completed Save The Humans trilogy. The world has forever changed. Nuclear war has destroyed all governments, left the land barren, and pushed man near extinction. One of the only foods man can eat is the cattleworm, a new species that drags its body along the earth like a snail, but the cattleworm are slowly disappearing. Eighteen-year-old Sean Anders realizes his village is running out of food. After he and three others are chosen to embark on a mission that could save the people of Nova from starvation, they travel across a barren land made even more dangerous by unpredictable weather, bandits, and a new species that has replaced man at the top of the food chain. As Sean learns what it takes to be a man in a world that belongs to the fittest, he soon discovers how far mankind’s cruelty extends when there are no rules to follow or laws to govern. Now only time will tell if he can survive long enough to save his people or whether he will be just another victim of a harsh new world.
