Amendment to Class B Airspace - Detroit, MI (US Federal Aviation Administration Regulation) (FAA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Amendment to Class B Airspace - Detroit, MI (US Federal Aviation Administration Regulation) (FAA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 This action modifies the Detroit, MI, Class B airspace area to contain aircraft conducting published instrument procedures at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), Detroit, MI, within Class B airspace. The FAA is taking this action to support containment of aircraft operations using the three existing dual Simultaneous Independent Instrument Landing System (SIILS) configurations, runways 22R/21L, runways 4L/3R and runways 27L/27R, as well as support containment of aircraft operations for triple SIILS operations to runways 4L/4R/3R and runways 21L/22L/22R. This action will enhance safety, improve the flow of air traffic, and reduce the potential for midair collisions in the DTW terminal area, while accommodating the concerns of all airspace users. Furthermore, this effort supports the FAA's national airspace redesign goal of optimizing terminal and enroute airspace areas to reduce aircraft delays and improve system capacity. Modifications of Class B Airspace - Chicago, IL (US Federal Aviation Administration Regulation) (FAA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Modifications of Class B Airspace - Chicago, IL (US Federal Aviation Administration Regulation) (FAA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 This action modifies the Chicago, IL, Class B airspace area by expanding the existing airspace area to ensure containment of Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) aircraft conducting instrument approach procedures within Class B airspace, and segregating IFR aircraft arriving/departing Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Visual Flight Rules (VFR) aircraft operating in the vicinity of the Chicago Class B airspace area. The additional Class B airspace will support simultaneous instrument approach procedure operations to ORD's triple parallel runways today, as well as the three additional parallel runways (six total) planned for the near future. This action enhances safety, improves the flow of air traffic, and reduces the potential for midair collision in the Chicago terminal area, further supporting the FAA's national airspace redesign goal of optimizing terminal and en route airspace areas to reduce aircraft delays and improve safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System (NAS). Updated as of May 29, 2018 This action establishes restricted area airspace within the Devils Lake Military Operations Area (MOA), overlying Camp Grafton Range, in the vicinity of Devils Lake, ND. The new restricted areas permit realistic training in modern tactics to be conducted at Camp Grafton Range while ensuring the safe and efficient use of the National Airspace System (NAS) in the Devils Lake, ND, area. Unlike restricted areas which are designated under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) part 73, MOAs are not regulatory airspace. However, since the restricted areas overlap the Devils Lake East MOA, the FAA is including a description of the Devils Lake East MOA change in this rule. The MOA change described herein will be published in the National Flight Data Digest (NFDD). Fuel Tank Vent Fire Protection (US Federal Aviation Administration Regulation) (FAA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Fuel Tank Vent Fire Protection (US Federal Aviation Administration Regulation) (FAA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 The FAA is amending certain airworthiness regulations for transport category airplanes to require fuel tank designs that prevent a fuel tank explosion caused by the propagation of flames, from external fires, through the fuel tank vents. This final rule requires a delay of two minutes and thirty seconds between exposure of external fuel tank vents to ignition sources and explosions caused by propagation of flames into the fuel tank, thus increasing the time available for passenger evacuation and emergency response. These amendments apply to applications for new type certificates and certain applications for amended or supplemental type certificates. The amendments also require certain airplanes produced in the future and operated by air carriers to meet the new standards.
