This is a story about relationshipsbonds of passion between men and women. The drama revolves around six individuals, their amorous intimacies, and the unperceived wounds and psychological mutilation they sustain as they plummet into the Intimacy Maelstrom. Dmitri is a self-absorbed, young Russian intent on achieving the American dream, and thinks little of marriage and fatherhood. In contrast, unattractive Irina desperately fears becoming an old-maid. Her work colleague, Caroline, older, sophisticated, despite having a soul-mate, is bored and seeking breathtaking romance. In his twilight years, Dr. Ramirez is dispirited in his burned-out marriage, but believes he is too old to alter his life, until meeting sexy Claire, a patient. Unfortunately Nina, his wife, is an old-fashioned woman who believes only marriage, children, and family bring fulfillment. Into this mlange comes Ronny, her sonhandsome, sexy, a sensualistwho adores women, but in his own aberrant, warped manner. The author paints, in vivid colors, a picture of tormented lives entangled in passionate but toxic, perverted, unhealthy relationships. Although the lovers may strip themselves of their lacerating liaisons, do they walk away unscathed and unscarred? The novel illumines the imperceptible damage and mayhem sustained when our lives and happiness depend upon fickle, unreliable love from others. The bold, flaming, shattering scenes portrayed may have one gasping for fresh air and sunshine.
With a writing style alive with the rhythms and riffs of jazz, Jeffries deftly examines the questions of identity, race and family in a provocative, moving and often hilarious memoir. Too light to be black, too dark to be white, finding a place in race-conscious American society as the son of a black father and Jewish mother was a challenging journey for the author. Following a different path to his more wayward siblings, he discovers conflicts within himself that have as much to do with Kafka as with Ellison. The truth he learns - you must create yourself.
The Romance of Lust: A Classic Victorian erotic novel - Anonymous - The Romance of Lust, or Early Experiences is a Victorian erotic novel written anonymously in four volumes during the years 1873–1876 and published by William Lazenby. Henry Spencer Ashbee discusses this novel in one of his bibliographies of erotic literature. In addition the compilers of British Museum General Catalogue of Printed Books list this book. The novel is told in first person, and the protagonist of the novel is Charlie Roberts. Charlie possesses a large penis, much virility, and a seemingly insatiable sexual appetite. The novel begins with "There were three of us—Mary, Eliza, and myself." Charlie describes his sexual initiation as an adolescent—as he is "approaching fifteen". He catalogs his sexual experiences including incest with his sisters Eliza and Mary, sex with his governesses, and his later sexual exploits with various male and female friends, and acquaintances. Besides incest, the book deals with a variety of sexual activities, including orgies, masturbation, lesbianism, flagellation, fellatio, cunnilingus, gay sex, anal sex, and double penetration. Taboo subjects such as homosexuality, incest, and pedophilia are common themes in the novel. Questions of authorship exist for this novel, and there are two likely candidates, William Simpson Potter, and Edward Sellon. Sellon is the author of other erotic novels and a book on snake worship, whereas Potter wrote and had privately printed two books of letters on the Prince of Wales' visit to India in 1875–1876. From examining the text in Letters from India during H. R. H. the Prince of Wales visit in 1875–6, from William S. Potter to his sister, one could make a stronger case for Potter, as there are similarities in writing style between the book of letters and The Romance of Lust. Ashbee asserts that Potter acted as editor to contributions by a number of aficionados.
