She's his best friend's sister, but he's ready to break all the rules... Country veterinarian Celia Gamble is in trouble. A misunderstanding from her past is rearing its ugly head and the only person she can turn to is Jonah Clarke—her family's lawyer and, as it turns out, her brother's best friend and her childhood crush. She always wanted Jonah to see her as a bona fide woman, but as a woman who's being blackmailed for seducing a married man? Not on her life. Jonah is happy to help Little CeeCee Gamble, if only she'd come clean about why she's being blackmailed. But with his best friend Zach's wedding on the horizon, and Zach's fashionista fiancée Desiree giving CeeCee a makeover, the little duckling Jonah remembers is turning into a definite swan. And the unwritten law on sisters is clear—hands off. Jonah must resist or lose the only true family he's ever known.

His Reluctant Rancher by Roxanne Snopek Can a city girl and country cowboy open up to love? The last place city girl Desiree Burke expected to find herself was living at and working on a ranch, much less butting heads with the ranch's sexy cowboy owner, Zach Gamble. But that's exactly where she ends up after an incident at work leads her to her best friend Rory's doorstep. Desiree is a gifted physical therapist, and Rory knows exactly where her brand of tough love is needed the most. Zach's been through hell and back. A devastating car crash left his brother gone, his father paralyzed, and him with mental scars a mile wide. His survivor guilt alone makes him sure he doesn't deserve to find love. But as Des works her way into his ranch, his family, and his life, suddenly the last person who belonged there is the only one he believes belongs...with him.

Between the 1980s and the first decade of the twenty-first century, Asian Americans in Los Angeles moved toward becoming a racial majority in the communities of the East San Gabriel Valley. By the late 1990s, their "model minority" status resulted in greater influence in local culture, neighborhood politics, and policies regarding the use of suburban space. In the "country living" subdivisions, which featured symbols of Western agrarianism including horse trails, ranch fencing, and Spanish colonial architecture, white homeowners encouraged assimilation and enacted policies suppressing unwanted "changes"—that is, increased density and influence of Asian culture. While some Asian suburbanites challenged whites' concerns, many others did not. Rather, white critics found support from affluent Asian homeowners who also wished to protect their class privilege and suburbia's conservative Anglocentric milieu. In Resisting Change in Suburbia, award-winning historian James Zarsadiaz explains how myths of suburbia, the American West, and the American Dream informed regional planning, suburban design, and ideas about race and belonging.
