Vaccine hesitancy is not a new concern, but this public health issue has garnered a lot of attention in the media lately as poor COVID-19 vaccination rates have hindered our return to pre-pandemic "normal" times. In the United States, only 60 percent of the nation's population is fully vaccinated despite the vaccine being widely available. Many unvaccinated individuals are hesitant to receive the COVID-19 vaccine due to various factors, including religious and cultural reasons, concerns regarding vaccine safety, and mistrust of government and public health officials. The following paper, however, focuses on religious-based vaccine hesitancy, which refers to the refusal or delay in acceptance of a vaccine due to religious beliefs or values. Religious exemptions and ethical concerns surrounding current vaccine promotion tactics will be considred in an effort to address the question: How should we, as a society, ethically respond to the issue of vaccine hesitancy, specifically in regards to religious concerns? Current methods aimed at increasing vaccinations rates, such as incentives and mandates, have instigated pushback from some of the general public, and this project hopes to assess what can be done to promote vaccine uptake in a more ethical and considerate manner. A philosophical discussion of the challenges posed by the public health concern of vaccine hesitancy, with an incorporation of Kantian ethics, will serve to help us evaluate how we ought to promote COVID-19 vaccine acceptance among the religiously hesitant.

Pssst...God has something to share with you. Open your eyes a little bigger now. Would you like a better body? How about some optimal health? You may need to open your mind and your heart a little more as well. Take a deep breath. Can you feel it? God is communicating with you right now. He wants to give you knowledge. The Bible is filled with scriptures. Some are stories, some are songs to bring you joy and hope, some are parables meant to convey his religious message, and some are instructions for our lives to be led with moral character. Do you dare to know the true? Knowledge will make a difference in your life, your family's life, and your friends' lives. Then you will know the truth, and the true will set you free (John 8:32). How good will you feel when you can understand the mystery ingredients in vaccines. Vaccines never freely share their ingredients with you; they are mysterious. We are told that they are safe. But are they? And what are they? And where do they come from? And what do they do to our bodies? These ingredients are contaminated with toxic chemicals that our bodies were never meant to be injected with. Some folks say vaccines are necessary. Well, I am here to tell you that God has already made you uniquely perfect. We do not need these man made additives to protect us. Our bodies are created by God. He made us resilient. He made us capable of healing ourselves. He made us in his image. The power is within us, our minds, and bodies. We are temples for the Holy Spirit to dwell in. If you would like to take hold of your very own precious life and stop being a robot that is told what to do in the name of science, well, this book is for you. We are not to be science experiments. Science and faith can go hand in hand. Research proves outcomes. God is the almighty physician. Let his word be our prescription for what ails us. In this book, you will find every vaccine currently being offered and its ingredients listed scientifically and defined in plain English. Not only that, but you will also have a chance to surf the Bible and read scripture in its full content. I have paired biblical reference and scientific research to show that there is evidence in the Bible that warrants a need for religious exemption from immunizations to protect ourselves in a holy manner. Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people (Matthew 4:23).

This first comprehensive history of the social and political aspects of vaccination in the United States tells the story of how vaccination became a widely accepted public health measure over the course of the twentieth century. One hundred years ago, just a handful of vaccines existed, and only one, for smallpox, was widely used. Today more than two dozen vaccines are in use, fourteen of which are universally recommended for children. State of Immunity examines the strategies that health officials have used—ranging from advertising and public relations campaigns to laws requiring children to be immunized before they can attend school—to gain public acceptance of vaccines. Like any medical intervention, vaccination carries a small risk of adverse reactions. But unlike other procedures, it is performed on healthy people, most commonly children, and has been mandated by law. Vaccination thus poses unique ethical, political, and legal questions. James Colgrove considers how individual liberty should be balanced against the need to protect the common welfare, how experts should act in the face of incomplete or inconsistent scientific information, and how the public should be involved in these decisions. A well-researched, intelligent, and balanced look at a timely topic, this book explores these issues through a vivid historical narrative that offers new insights into the past, present, and future of vaccination.

A profound exploration of how to hold on to hope when our unchanging faith collides with a changing culture, from two respected Christian storytellers and thought leaders. “Offers neither spin control nor image maintenance for the evangelical tribe, but genuine hope.”—Russell Moore, president of ERLC As the pressures of health warnings, economic turmoil, and partisan politics continue to rise, the influence of gospel-focused Christians seems to be waning. In the public square and popular opinion, we are losing our voice right when it’s needed most for Christ’s glory and the common good. But there’s another story unfolding too—if you know where to look. In Gospelbound, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra counter these growing fears with a robust message of resolute hope for anyone hungry for good news. Join them in exploring profound stories of Christians who are quietly changing the world in the name of Jesus—from the wild world of digital media to the stories of ancient saints and unsung contemporary activists on the frontiers of justice and mercy. Discover how, in these dark times, the light of Jesus shines even brighter. You haven’t heard the whole story. And that’s good news.
