Choosing to take care of myself meant forcing to look at myself and admit....I am fat. At 5'9 and 310 pounds, I was not just fat but morbidly obese. I'm not sure when it happened but I stopped looking in the mirror at myself, at my body. In fact the only mirror in the house was a small mirror over the bathroom sink. Getting dressed in the morning I never took one final look at myself in the mirror because I did not want to see my fat self. This did not sway me from stopping at two different fast food restaurants each morning. One restaurant has the absolute best sausage, bacon, egg and cheese biscuit. The other restaurants crispy, warm hash browns are heavenly. I told myself "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" so of course I would never skip this meal. I ate the hash browns and breakfast sandwich in my car while driving on the way to work being very careful not to drive too close to the other vehicles. I hated traffic jams because I could not eat and would never let the other drivers on the road see a fat girl stuffing her face.I needed my energy, my optimism, my spirit to handle the demands of life. I knew as all fat people know in order to stay at a healthy weight; you need to equal calories you eat with the calories you burn. To lose weight, you need to use more calories than you eat. But knowing and doing are two very different things. It's a never-ending cycle, and it's one that kept me in a whirlwind. I was at the end of my rope.I believed the reason I eat even when I am full is because I have a lack of discipline and a failure of willpower and it's an understatement to say I'm preoccupied with food. I love to eat, I live to eat. I think about breakfast when I'm eating dinner, I think about what I'm having for lunch while I'm eating breakfast and of course I'm thinking about what to cook for dinner while I'm eating lunch. How do you eat less and exercise more when food is on your mind 24/7?I set myself up to fail each time I dieted because I limited my food intake. Rather than seeing a healthy diet as a temporary way to lose weight I removed the word diet from my vocabulary. By eating healthy I am boosting my energy levels and improving my immune system. Eating a healthy menu, substituting fruits and vegetables for fats and combining this with exercise I am leading a more vibrant life. I no longer have to go into hiding to eat my food.I was at the end of my rope when it came to food and being a fat girl but, I tied a knot at the end and hung on. I am now at peace with food instead of hating food. You can hang on too and be in a peaceful place with food. With a healthy eating plan you can maintain your weight loss for life and begin living a Zenful Food life.
