I feel your pain and I want you to know you are not alone. Just like there are happy poems and sad poems in this book, life is full of happy moments and sad moments. We will all smile and we will all cry before our time on earth is over. My desire for you is that you will cherish every moment. Life is for living. Live in the joyful moments. Smile, laugh, and love with all you have. Live in the despairing moments. Weep, shake, and survive to see the happy times again. Just like there will always be sadness in life, there will also always be happiness. They are unavoidable and one cannot exist without the other.

As Francis explores new areas, eventually exploring Los Angeles, and falling in love, he finds himself wanting and willing to permanently move away from the family. However, interrupting the verse are letters from his sister that juxtapose his pleasure and encourage him to return home.
