Often management is the art of making strategic and tactical decisions with a total lack of objective information. How often do we wish for a crystal ball that would let us see how decisions today will play out in the future? Unfortunately it is not yet possible to predict the future, but it is possible to generate objective criteria to help make today's decisions. While simulation has been around for decades, recent advances have made it much more accessible and useful in our daily world. The software is now less expensive and easier to learn and use. And the flexibility and accuracy have dramatically improved. But most important, modern tools allow you to solve problems much faster than ever before – making those solutions timelier and less costly, and letting you reap the benefits quickly. We invite you to learn about simulation and its potential to improve your business. Then perhaps use this book as a companion to the free software download to start building models on your first day. After completing this introduction, you can continue your learning by taking advantage of the free video training available on the Simio web site or via the Support ribbon on the downloaded software.

The model presented in this manual for the IT professional helps managers work with tech workers and their customers to make a clear and well-substantiated argument for IT service investments. In order to validate and fully explain this model, Wigodsky presents an overview of the "why" behind technology investment for any organization, and combines this with detailed real-world solutions that maximize BCO efficiency. By eliminating the "futz factor" commonly associated with system ownership costs, the book provides a glimpse of the next generation IT architecture, a repeatable process for identifying organization-wide system costs, and a customizable model for integrating BCO management with your people, processes, and technology. · Provides detailed technical architectures, processes, and integrated solutions using common computing technologies · Helps the reader build a customized model for reviewing the long-term potential costs and benefits of interrelated IT investments · Includes observations of HP thought leaders, experienced consultants, and customers on past projects

Rapid Modelling and Quick Response presents new research developments in the fields of rapid modelling and quick response linked with performance improvements (based on lead time reduction, etc., as well as financial performance measures). The papers and teaching cases in this book were presented at the second Rapid Modelling Conference: "Quick Response – Intersection of Theory and Practice". The main focus of this collection is the transfer of knowledge from theory to practice, providing the theoretical foundations for successful performance improvement. This conference volume challenges the traditional notions of rapid modelling, and offers valuable contributions to the scientific communities of operations management, production management, supply chain management, industrial engineering and operations research. Rapid Modelling and Quick Response will give the interested reader (researcher, as well as practitioner) a good overview of new developments in this field.

This book addresses complex real-world problems with recent techniques. It comprises selected papers from the XX. congress APDIO held in Tomar, Portugal, in July 2019. The subject of the book is the application of operational research methodologies and techniques to address complex real problems. Readers will find interesting results and applications of operational research methods and techniques in the wide variety of the addressed problems. Of particular interest are the applications of, among others, linear, nonlinear and mixed-integer programing, multiobjective optimization, metaheuristics and hybrid heuristics, multicriteria decision analysis, data envelopment analysis, clustering techniques and decision support systems, in different areas such as supply chain management, scheduling problems, production management, logistics, energy, telecommunications and finance and health. In most chapters of the book, the described problems, methods and methodologies will be illustrated by auxiliary figures and tables, as well as algorithms. The main benefit of this book is to present the latest trends in operational research methods and methodologies by top Portuguese and international researchers. The book will present a wide scope of complex real-world applications addressed by recent theoretical techniques that aim to narrow the gap between academic researchers and practitioners.

This book introduces the role of Rapid Prototyping Techniques within the product development phase. It deals with the concept, origin, and working cycle of Rapid Prototyping Processes with emphasis on the applications. Apart from elaboration of engineering and non-engineering applications, it highlights recent applications like Bio-Medical Models for Surgical Planning, Molecular Models, Architectural Models, Sculptured Models, Psycho-Analysis Models. Special emphasis has been provided to the technique of generating human organs from live cells/tissues of the same human named 3D BIO PRINTERS. As the Rapid Prototyping Techniques are for tailor made products and not for mass manufacturing hence the book also elaborates on the mass manufacturing of rapid prototyped products. This includes casting and rapid tooling. The book concludes with Reverse Engineering and the role played by Rapid Prototyping Techniques towards the same. With globalization of market and advances in science and technology, the life span of products has shortened considerably. For early realization of products and short development period, engineers and researchers are constantly working together for more and more efficient and effective solutions. The most effective solution identified has been usage of computers in both designing and manufacturing. This gave birth to the nomenclatures CAD (Computer Aided Designing) and CAM (Computer aided Manufacturing). This was the initiation that ensured short product development and realization period. Researchers coined the concept as Rapid Prototyping. In contrast to Prototyping, Rapid prototyping is a group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale model of a physical part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) data. Construction of the part or assembly is usually done using 3D printing or "additive or subtractive layer manufacturing" technology. The first methods for rapid prototyping became available in the late 1980s and were used to produce models and prototype parts. Today, they are used for a wide range of applications and are used to manufacture production-quality parts in relatively small numbers if desired without the typical unfavorable short-run economics. This economy has encouraged online service bureaus for early product realization or physical products for actual testing. This book is expected to contain Seven Chapters. Chapter 1 would explain product life cycle and the product development phase in the same, introducing role of Rapid Prototyping Techniques in Product development phase. Chapter 2 would deals with the concept, origin and working cycle of Rapid Prototyping Processes. Chapter 3 would concentrates on the applications of Rapid Prototyping Technology. Apart from elaboration of engineering and non-engineering applications, it also elaborates on recent applications like Bio-Medical Models for Surgical Planning, Molecular Models, Architectural Models, Sculptured Models, Psycho-Analysis Models etc. Chapter 4 would introduce the various Rapid Prototyping systems available worldwide. The chapter also introduces the technique of generating human organs from live cells/tissues of the same human named 3D BIO PRINTERS hence ensuring low rejection rate by human body. As the Rapid Prototyping Techniques are for tailor made products and not for mass manufacturing hence Chapter 5 would elaborates on the mass manufacturing of rapid prototyped products. This includes Casting and Rapid Tooling. Chapter 6 would deal with Reverse Engineering and the role played by Rapid Prototyping Techniques towards the same. As the product realization is primarily dependent on various softwares which are required to be understood for better accuracy so the concluding chapter of the book i.e. Chapter 7 would explain some software associated with the various techniques.

Currently, the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solutions is considered as the state-of-the-art in the modeling of unsteady nonlinear flow physics and offers an early and improved understanding of air vehicle aerodynamics and stability and control characteristics. This Special Issue covers recent computational efforts on simulation of aerospace vehicles including fighter aircraft, rotorcraft, propeller driven vehicles, unmanned vehicle, projectiles, and air drop configurations. The complex flow physics of these configurations pose significant challenges in CFD modeling. Some of these challenges include prediction of vortical flows and shock waves, rapid maneuvering aircraft with fast moving control surfaces, and interactions between propellers and wing, fluid and structure, boundary layer and shock waves. Additional topic of interest in this Special Issue is the use of CFD tools in aircraft design and flight mechanics. The problem with these applications is the computational cost involved, particularly if this is viewed as a brute-force calculation of vehicle’s aerodynamics through its flight envelope. To make progress in routinely using of CFD in aircraft design, methods based on sampling, model updating and system identification should be considered.
