The meaning of art has not been determined till date. The word art is such a broad and dynamic concept that despite thousands of definitions of various scholars touch on only one particular aspect of art but when the consciousness awakened, that form of energy gives form to the joy arising inside the mind of the artist. This book ( Art and Artists- vol 2 ) is a small part of the blissful energy of some such artists. Hopefully it will give a comprehensiveness to the thinking by erasing the boundaries of selfishness, family, region, religion, language and caste etc. formed in the mind of every person and will satisfy the aesthetic appetite of art lovers and artists.
Memoir of an Artist is a compelling account of an unpredictable life that stretches through India, Nigeria, and Paris. As a student, he was a witness to the student revolt in Paris in 1968; in the seventies, he was in Nigeria observing the post-Biafra scenario as a teacher in the university. As a product of institutional education that shaped and groomed the new artists, he realizes the impact of Eurocentric dialogue on Indian art so imposing that it makes Indian art in perpetual transit. Again, in the process of creating dialogue within Kolkata life, author discovers contemporary art indeed has no social connectivity; thus, the educated progressive is unable to dialogue with the progressing art. Indian modernism has become a manufactured brand within art commerce, aligned to global marketing. Meanwhile, life has many spectrums, and the author has observed the modernistic agenda exists in contemporary art, as in many activities of Indian life, but each is like an island without connectivity.
The Indian Listener (fortnightly programme journal of AIR in English) published by The Indian State Broadcasting Service,Bombay ,started on 22 december, 1935 and was the successor to the Indian Radio Times in english, which was published beginning in July 16 of 1927. From 22 August ,1937 onwards, it was published by All India Radio,New Delhi.In 1950,it was turned into a weekly journal. Later,The Indian listener became "Akashvani" in January 5, 1958. It was made a fortnightly again on July 1,1983. It used to serve the listener as a bradshaw of broadcasting ,and give listener the useful information in an interesting manner about programmes,who writes them,take part in them and produce them along with photographs of performing artists. It also contains the information of major changes in the policy and service of the organisation. For over 40 years, Professor Patricia Jeffery, Professor Emerita in Sociology, University of Edinburgh, carried out pioneering research, individually and in partnership with her colleagues. The range of subjects she covered includes gender and development, especially childbearing, women’s reproductive rights, social demography in South Asia, Indian society, gender and communal politics, education and the reproduction of inequality; race and ethnicity. Her books, including Frogs in a Well: Indian Women in Purdah (1979) and Appropriating Gender: Women’s Activism, Politicized Religion and the State in South Asia (edited with Amrita Basu, 1998) inspired peers and future scholars alike.
