HANDBOOK OF PYRROLIDONE AND CAPROLACTAM BASED MATERIALS Brings together, for the first time, a comprehensive review of all aspects of pyrrolidone- and caprolactam-based materials This comprehensive, six-volume set describes the broad technical universe of γ- and ε- lactams, reviewing in-depth the chemistry of the small lactam-based molecules, uncovering their unique properties and showing how they have enabled a myriad of commercially important applications. From synthesis, through production and into applications, this extensive work targets significant and recent trends in γ- and ε-lactam science and technology and addresses all key aspects of pyrrolidone- and caprolactam-based materials to produce a definitive overview of the field. Handbook of Pyrrolidone and Caprolactam Based Materials provides a detailed and modern portrait of the impact of pyrrolidone- and caprolactam-based materials on the world, as well as potential future possibilities. Volume One presents the chemistry of small lactam-based molecules and uncovers their unique properties. Volume Two covers polymeric materials, including polyvinyl pyrrolidone and polyvinyl caprolactam, and reviews homopolymerization, copolymerization, controlled radical polymermization and acrylate based pyrrolidone polymerizations. Volume Three examines the physical chemistry and molecular interactions of pyrrolidone and caprolactam based materials. Volume Four expands upon the characterization theme from the third volume, and includes detailed discussions of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermal and mechanical properties, and imaging techniques. Volume Five explores pharmaceutical applications in both ingredients and materials, as well as the antimicrobial properties and applications of pyrrolidone and caprolactam-based materials, and their toxicology. Volume Six covers personal and home care, skin care, transdermal applications and wound care, oral care, adhesion related applications and digital applications such as inkjet technology. Handbook of Pyrrolidone and Caprolactam Based Materials will appeal to industrial scientists and engineers interested in polymer development and manufacturing. It will also benefit academic researchers working in the fields of chemistry, materials science, and chemical and process engineering.

Intravenous fluid and blood component resuscitation is an integral part of modern medicine practice in a variety of medical fields. However, these therapies are usually led by rigid and very approximate guidelines. The purpose of creating the Homeostatic blood states theory was to develop more accurate guidelines. On the basis of the new theory the following results have been reached: 1. The physiological-mathematical model explaining blood volume homeostasis has been created; 2. Nomograms for infusion therapy measures, blood loss evaluation and calculating red blood cell transfusion amount were proposed; 3. Nomograms were built on the background of interfering relationship of blood hematocrit and hemoglobin concentration; 4. New guidelines for infusion therapy, blood loss evaluation and calculating transfusion amount for proper hematocrit increase were proposed; 5. New method for early verification of occult bleeding has been suggested. Three major homeostatic blood states were described: (1) target state, (2) state of maximal isoosmotic plasma dilution and (3) dehydration. Target states maintain optimal red cell mass and blood volume correlation. Other two maintain critical plasma hydration origin deviations from target state. Three new nomograms enable planning and evaluation of infusion therapy and red cell mass transfusion, quantitate evaluation of blood loss and early detection of occult bleeding based on the dynamics of blood hematocrit and hemoglobin concentration.

The sixth volume in a series of handbooks on graphene research and applications The Handbook of Graphene, Volume 6: Biosensors and Advanced Sensors discusses the unique benefits that the discovery of graphene has brought to the sensing and biosensing sectors. It examines graphene's use in leading-edge technology applications and the development of a variety of graphene-based sensors. The handbook looks at how graphene can be used as an electrode, substrate, or transducer in sensor design. Graphene-based sensor detection has achieved up to femto-levels, with performances delivering the advantages of greater selectivity, sensitivity, and stability.

Intended for engineers, researchers, and graduate students dealing with materials science, structural design, and nondestructive testing and evaluation, this book represents a continuation of the author's "Fracture Mechanics" (1997). It will appeal to a variety of audiences: The discussion of design codes and procedures will be of use to practicing engineers, particularly in the nuclear, aerospace, and pipeline industries; the extensive bibliography and discussion of recent results will make it a useful reference for academic researchers; and graduate students will find the clear explanations and worked examples useful for learning the field. The book begins with a general treatment of fracture mechanics in terms of material properties and loading and provides up-to-date reviews of the ductile-brittle transition in steels and of methods for analyzing the risk of fracture. It then discusses the dynamics of fracture and creep in homogeneous and isotropic media, including discussions of high-loading-rate characteristics, the behavior of stationary cracks in elastic media under stress, and the propagation of cracks in elastic media. This is followed by an analysis of creep and crack initiation and propagation, describing, for example, the morphology and incubation times of crack initiation and growth and the effects of high temperatures. The book concludes with treatments of cycling deformation and fatigue, creep-fatigue fractures, and crack initiation and propagation. Problems at the end of each chapter serve to reinforce and test the student's knowledge and to extend some of the discussions in the text. Solutions to half of the problems are provided.
