Excerpt from Pulpwood Production and Consumption in the Northeast, 2001 The previous pulpwood survey was conducted in 1997; data were unavailable for the years 1998, 1999, and 2000. We estimated roundwood production and receipts and receipts of manufacturing residues for these years. The estimation procedure relied on actual data from 1997 (the previous survey period) and from 2001 (the current survey period). Excerpt from Pulpwood Production in the Northeast, 1997 This report presents annual pulpwood production and consumption data for the 13 Northeastern States1 during 1997. Data were obtained by a 100-percent canvass of pulpmills in the Northeast (fig. 1) that use wood as a basic raw material to make pulp for the production of paper, insulation board, and hardboard products. Shipments outside of the Northeast are traced by exchanging information with neighboring Forest Service Experiment Stations that conduct similar canvasses, and by canvassing pulpmills in adjacent Canadian provinces. Excerpt from Pulpwood Production in the Northeast, 1974 Then, during the second half of 1974, the sagging economy caught up with the paper industry. Demand for paperboard dried up. Kraft pulp production began to catch up with the backlog of new orders, and pulpmills ad justed their work schedules downward. By year's end, the woodyard inventory at north eastern pulpmills had grown to more than a million cords, up from cords in 1973. Although pulpwood suppliers were restricted in their deliveries, they were not cut off. One reason for this temporary delay in curtailing round pulpwood deliveries was because wood chip deliveries from plant residues were down. Chipped residues normally make up more than 20 percent of the wood receipts at northeastern pulpmills. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
