The Sensible Psychic: A Leading-Edge Guide To True Psychic Perception And The Supernatural Experiences Of Everyday Psychics And Mediums The Sensible Psychic is a level-headed guide to genuine psychic channeling and mediumship that dispels many of the modern myths and misconceptions regarding true psychic ability, supernatural perception, and the so-called 'clair senses.' This trailblazing guide is an honest, no-nonsense exploration of the authentic abilities of everyday psychics and mediums and a forthright examination of true psychic perception and supernatural channeling, instead of just being another 'psychic' book about oracle card divination, numerology, astrology, crystal ball scrying or reading tea leaves in a cup. The Sensible Psychic bridges the gap between a rational left-brain and an intuitive right-brain approach to psychic perception by finding a level-headed middle-ground between theory and practice, physics and metaphysics, and science and spirituality. It is a sober, user-friendly account that features both new and revised psychic terminology, as well as a re-imagined conceptual model for psychic perception that challenges an outmoded, yet persistent misconception: psychics and mediums do not 'sense, ' they perceive. The Sensible Psychic is mythbusting real talk for the psychic truth seeker and a must-have new resource for all sensible psychics and mediums. PRACTITIONERS A redefining reference text for psychic professionals who prefer a sensible, pragmatic approach to psychic channeling and mediumship based on relatable concepts, accurate representation, sensible science, and common sense terminology. Robert Torrance's wide-ranging, innovative study argues that the spiritual quest is rooted in our biological, psychological, linguistic, and social nature. The quest is not, as most have believed, a rare mystical experience, but a frequent expression of our most basic human impulses. Shaman and scientist, medium and poet, prophet and philosopher, all venture forth in quest of visionary truths to transform and renew the world. Yet Torrance is not trying to reduce the quest to an "archetype" or "monomyth." Instead, he presents the full diversity of the quest in the myths and religious practices of tribal peoples throughout the world, from Oceania to India, Africa, Siberia, and especially the Americas. In theorizing about the quest, Torrance draws on thinkers as diverse as Bergson and Piaget, van Gennep and Turner, Pierce and Popper, Freud, Darwin, and Chomsky. This is a book that will expand our knowledge—and awareness—of a fundamental human activity in all its fascinating complexity.

America's literature is notably marked by a preoccupation with the spiritual quest. Questing heroes from Huck Finn to Nick Adams have undertaken solitary journeys that pull them away from family and society and into a transformative wilderness that brings them to a new understanding of the spiritual world. Women, however, have not often been portrayed as questing heroes. Bound to home and community, they have been more frequently cast as representatives of that stifling world from which the hero is compelled to flee. Are women in American literary texts thus excluded from spiritual experience? Kristina K. Groover, in examining this question, finds that books by American women writers offer alternative patterns for seeking revelation--patterns which emphasize not solitary journeys, but the sacredness of everyday life. Drawing on the work of feminist theorists and theologians, including Carol Gilligan, Naomi Goldenberg, and Rosemary Ruether, Groover explores the spiritual nature and force of domesticity, community, storytelling, and the garden in the works of such writers as Toni Morrison, Katherine Anne Porter, Kaye Gibbons, and Alice Walker. Ordinary, personal experience in these works becomes a source for spiritual revelation. Wisdom is gained, lessons are learned, and lives are healed not in spite of home and communal ties, but because of them. Thus, American women writers, Groover argues, make alternative literary and spiritual paradigms possible. Similarly, Kristina K. Groover, in this lucid and groundbreaking work, opens up new fields of exploration for any reader interested in women's spirituality or in the rich, diverse field of American literature.

Here is a unique analysis of Carl Jung's thought from the perspective of the history of religions. Using a religious and historical approach, the author identifies the religious goal or ultimate concern of Jung's psychological system, and traces the evolution of that goal throughout his Collected Works. This book focuses on the historical development of a key component of Jung's thought--the quest for wholeness--and shows how it functions as the ultimate concern of his psychotherapeutic system. The relationships among many of Jung's important concepts, such as his "complex" theory, the individuation process, archetypal symbolism, therapeutic concerns, alchemy, and Eastern religions, are given a new sense of order and significance when viewed in this historical light. Rather than presenting a haphazard array of seemingly endless topics, this work emphasizes the continuity underlying Jung's early and later writings. The evolution of Jung's work is divided into three distinct phases: developmental, formative, and elaborative. Whereas the developmental period consists of the time prior to the creation of Jung's ultimate concern, it was during the formative phase that Jung began to consolidate the contours of his newly emerging system. During the elaborative phase, Jung expanded and clarified his ultimate concern and pattern of ultimacy. This book shows that the evolution of Jung's thought moved from a concern with psychic fragmentation, to individual wholeness, and then to cosmic unity.
