Excerpt from Provisional Regulations for Saber Exercise: United States Army, 1907 In t e school exercise the reparatory movements, the cuts, thrusts, parries, and simple com inations thereof are taught. Pre cision and uniformity in the execution of the various exercises should be insisted upon. At first the exercises will be taught in detail or by the numbers in order that the instructor may correct faulty execution. The caution By the numbers, or Without the num bers, will be given as may be required. The exercises, as a rule, will be confined to those executed at command. Frequent short rests should be given.
