DOWNLOAD EBOOKMulticulturalism and Integration provides new insights into the important issues of diversity, reasonable accommodation and identity construction in multicultural societies by examining the experiences of Canada and Ireland. While these two societies share many historical and cultural links, their differences help reveal the range of possible approaches to these important issues. Multicultural and multilingual diversity in contemporary Ireland are fairly recent phenomena, whereas Canada’s policies and practices addressing cultural and linguistic diversity are several decades old. This basic difference has influenced their laws, language policies, education systems, cultural creations, and national identities as they have worked to accommodate multiculturalism. The volume brings together an international group of scholars working in a variety of fields including politics, law, sociolinguistics, literature, philosophy, and history. Their interdisciplinary approach addresses the complex factors influencing integration and multiculturalism, painting detailed and accurate portraits of these issues in Canada and Ireland.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis 2006 Census print profile provides a statistical overview of Quebec, presenting most of the census variables. It should be noted that the electronic version of the profile contains more details about the breakdown of variables than the print format. The profiles are part of the census standard data products, which are data tables extracted from the 2006 Census database. They contain statistical information about all population, household, dwelling and family characteristics.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Area Profile Series gives a statistical overview, or profile, of geographic areas. A wide range of census variables are covered in limited detail. The Profile Series consists of data based on a 20% sample except for age, sex and marital status which are obtained on a 100% basis. New in 1996 Area Profiles can be accessed much earlier than in 1991. Components of the profile are available as each variable is released. From October 1997 to July 1998, data at the CD CSD level will be available on the day of release of a variable with all other geographic levels for this variable available one month later. The CD-ROM containing all area profiles will be available in 3rd Quarter of 1998 and the publications for CD/CSD and CT levels will be available in the first Quarter of 1999.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis publication presents a series of studies conducted by the European Population Committee between 1998 and 2001 together with specialised research institutes in eight European countries: Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, Portugal and Estonia. These focus on groups that are well established in several countries to enable comparison. The studies describe the origin of migrants, inflows and outflows of immigrant populations, fertility, family formation, intermarriage, mortality and the spatial distribution in the countries of settlement. They also include a co-ordinated modelling exercise to estimate the demographic impact of immigration on receiving populations since the Second World War.
