One of the most important functions of military aircraft is that of Observing. In rapidly and accurately communicating at once the results of observation to a distant point lies the greatest value of obtaining such observations. Radio adds to this very great advantage that of being able to control the movements of aircraft from the ground or from other aircraft, and that of transmission of distress signals from disabled craft.
