Excerpt from Proceedings and Collections of the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society: For the Year 1919 In the year 1919 the usual activities of the Society have been maintained, as in past years, notwithstanding the changes which are still with us as an aftermath of the great World War. The number of inquiries from a distance, about matters in which it is known that our Society is interested, indicate that we are becoming known in a continually widening field throughout our country. This gratifying intercourse which we have with leading institutions is, without a doubt, the result of the quality and arrangement of the publications which the Society has issued, under the direction of my predecessor, the Reverend Horace E. Hayden. With this legacy, which he has left us as a pattern and foundation, we shall endeavor to mark up to the standard that he has set in the matter printed in previous volumes, so far as we are able. As volume I has become unobtainable because only a few copies were printed in the early days of the Society, we reprint in this volume the lecture on Coal by Volney L. Maxwell, Esq., and Steuben Jenkin's paper read before the Society on A Yankee Celebration of Ye Olden Time, both of which appeared in volume I and should not have lost interest to us of the present day. Excerpt from Proceedings and Collections of the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society, Vol. 21: For the Years 1927, 1928 and 1929 The Essays Of Poor Robert the Scribe, contain among others, the original story of an axe to grind, written by our well-known historian, Charles Miner; though at one time attributed to Benjamin Franklin. As the collected volume Of essays has long been unavail able and we have been able to locate fewer than a half dozen existing copies Of the original, reprinting this interesting material seemed very advisable. The subject matter, literary style and general interest of these essays are such, that the editors are considering the latter publication of a facsimile limited edition. Excerpt from Proceedings and Collections of the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society, Vol. 22: For the Years 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935 and 1936 The main part begins with the Narrative History of the 109th Field Artillery by Col. William H. Zierdt. As the work is a history Of all local participation in the military service of the country Since 1775, up to and including the World War, this title is misleading. The lists of the Susquehanna County marriages and deaths, collected by Mrs. Jeanne E. S. Harrington Of Montrose, will be found invaluable to those interested in local family history. Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact.
