DOWNLOAD EBOOKPlastics are high-performance materials of wide use in the built environment. Their versatile technical properties are particularly fascinating. A broad range of form-giving and finishing processes makes plastic especially interesting for complex geometries in combination with digital planning processes. Following the pioneering plastic structures of the 1970s, a number of spectacular buildings have in recent years highlighted the outstanding technical and aesthetic potential of the material. Until now, however, there has been no systematic treatment of the use of plastic in architecture. This book seeks to fill that gap by providing an introduction to the structural and design possibilities of plastic. It introduces the material and its specific characteristics, describes various types of plastic in terms of their relevance for building, explains processing technologies and presents typical products and components. A concise presentation of twenty-five international built projects – organized by the type of application and the plastic involved – documents the broad range of plastic in architecture. Finally, a look ahead at the future describes the current state of the art in materials research.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe construction of buildings and structures relies on having a thorough understanding of building materials. Without this knowledge it would not be possible to build safe, efficient and long-lasting buildings, structures and dwellings. Building materials in civil engineering provides an overview of the complete range of building materials available to civil engineers and all those involved in the building and construction industries. The book begins with an introductory chapter describing the basic properties of building materials. Further chapters cover the basic properties of building materials, air hardening cement materials, cement, concrete, building mortar, wall and roof materials, construction steel, wood, waterproof materials, building plastics, heat-insulating materials and sound-absorbing materials and finishing materials. Each chapter includes a series of questions, allowing readers to test the knowledge they have gained. A detailed appendix gives information on the testing of building materials. With its distinguished editor and eminent editorial committee, Building materials in civil engineering is a standard introductory reference book on the complete range of building materials. It is aimed at students of civil engineering, construction engineering and allied courses including water supply and drainage engineering. It also serves as a source of essential background information for engineers and professionals in the civil engineering and construction sector. - Provides an overview of the complete range of building materials available to civil engineers and all those involved in the building and construction industries - Explores the basic properties of building materials featuring air hardening cement materials, wall and roof materials and sound-absorbing materials - Each chapter includes a series of questions, allowing readers to test the knowledge they have gained

DOWNLOAD EBOOKFachbuch aus dem Jahr 2019 im Fachbereich Ingenieurwissenschaften - Bauingenieurwesen, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: As natural aggregate sources are becoming depleted due to high demand in construction industry and the amount of disposed waste material keeps increasing, researchers are exploring the use of alternative materials which good preserve natural resources and save the environment. In this study, the utilization of plastic waste and broken glasses as a construction material for the production of building construction inputs such as roof tile, floor tile and hollow plastic block is a partial solution to environmental and ecological problems. Quality control test of samples of prepared material are conducted and compared with the standard material specification This study implies that for hallow plastic block, 33% plastic, 11.17% fine glass, 11.17% fine sand and 44.6% glass gives an optimum compressive result and plastic waste with a ratio of 30% plastic waste. Using plastic waste with a ratio of 30% plastic waste and 70% glass and sand gives better and quality roof tile, and 32% plastic and 68% glass and sand is preferable for light traffic zone (axle load less than 27Mpa) floor tile. Finally, conclude that using plastic tile in humid (wet) environment is preferable because it can resist cold and freeze weather due to low water absorption.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWhether it be as translucent sheets, broadly stretched membranes, and inflated foil cushions or in graceful, organic curves, architecture today is utilizing plastics in the most disparate forms and for a wide variety of purposes. Innovative technical developments are constantly improving its material properties; at the same time, there is a growing new awareness of its potential as a construction material. While plastics used to be employed primarily as an inexpensive variant on traditional building materials, they are increasingly regarded in the construction world today as a serious and viable alternative, be it as supporting structures, roofs, facades, or elements of interior design and decoration. Thanks in large part to this inherent self-sufficiency, plastics are currently enjoying an unprecedented surge in popularity, even among the international architectural avant-garde – as multiwall sheets or corrugated, fiber-reinforced panels, or as filling between glass panes. And the new generation of ecological bioplastics also pays tribute to the debate on sustainability, ridding plastics of their lingering reputation as environmental offenders. From the history of plastics and membranes in architecture to their material properties and requirements in construction and design, the Plastics and Membranes Construction Manual cuts to the chase, providing the kind of solid and comprehensive overview of the subject that readers have come to expect from the Im DETAIL series. Selected project examples round off the reference work and make it indispensable for the day-to-day life of the professional planner and for every architecture library.
