DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe present publication deals with the edible fruits and nuts. In addition, those that are native to or have become naturalized in Puerto Rico have been included. No attempt has been made to discuss all tropical and subtropical fruit and nut plants. The citrus fruits, avocado, papaya, mango, olive, date, coconut, and bananas are not included since they can be considered as major tropical fruits.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis technical paper on ornamental plant propagation in the tropics has been written to highlight the potential of tissue culture as an advanced propagation technology allowing for mass cloning of selected varieties or ecotypes. This document provides information on the state of the art of tissue culture propagation and gives technical details for propagating some 30 ornamental plant species. The aim of the paper is to enhance the technical capacity of public institutions and private entrepreneurs, thus leading to new production and market opportunities. It also aims to facilitate and encourage the use of techniques to promote ornamental plant diversity.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKMicropropagation is a technology that has developed within the past 30 years. Earlier overviews of plant tissue culture have reviewed micropropagation as just one of many tissue culture procedures in use. Since the applications of this technology have multiplied so rapidly in recent years, we decided that a specific overview of the technology was now appropriate Our book begins with a review of the general principles of tissue culture as applied to micropropagation. This review is concise since the general topic has been covered in numerous other books and reviews. The basic principles of laboratory design and construction are summarized in the second chapter. Common problems encountered in micropropagation, both during and after culture, are examined in detail in four chapters. As micropropagation developed from a laboratory curiosity to a commercial industry, different considerations became important. These are discussed in two chapters. An attempt has been made to assess the current status of commercial production around the world. This has been difficult because commercial production figures are often closely guarded and little has been done to collect statistics on this growing industry. Applications to a broad range of crops are discussed in a series of chapters. These try to report the state of the art in each area, but since applications for some crops are much more advanced than for others, the focus of these chapters varies depending upon the progress that has been made.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKPlant growth regulators or plant bio-regulators have emerged as a powerful tool for improving the performance of horticultural crops in general and fruit crops in particular. This book provided recent information on role of plant hormones, how their concentrations are regulated, and how they modulate the various plant processes. ‘Plant Growth Regulators in Tropical, Sub-tropical Fruit Crops’ is a comprehensive book covering function of plant growth regulators in propagation including micro-propagation, growth, flowering and fruiting behaviour, yield, quality, shelf life and stress management etc. This book has 26 chapters covering most of the tropical and sub-tropical fruit crops like aonla, avocado, banana, ber, citrus, custard apple, date palm, fig, grape, guava, jamun, kokam, litchi, mango, mulberry, papaya, passion fruit, sapota, phalsa, pomegranate and strawberry. Note: T&F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKPlant breeding has undergone a period of very rapid and significant development in recent years and the area of fruit breeding is no exception. This book provides a balanced, up-to-date and comprehensive account of the developments in the field of breeding tropical and subtropical fruits. It offers not only the theoretical and applied aspects of breedings fruits but also provides an authoritative manual of the conventional and new techniques used for increasing efficiency of crop improvement programmes. In specific chapters the book deals with crop taxonomy, genetic resources, floral biology, breeding objectives, inheritance patterns and information on new improved cultivars/hybrids.
