Henry Pence (1740-1826), who probably anglicized his name from Joerg Heinrich Bentz, emigrated in 1752 from Germany to Philadedelphia. He married Mary Blimly in 1765, and during or before 1770 had settled in Frederick County, Virginia. He served in the Revolutionary War, and in 1805 moved to Champaign County, Ohio. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota and elsewhere.
This genealogy of the Pence family is a comprehensive guide to the family's origins and history in America. Authored by Monroe Conger Pence, the book features detailed genealogies and histories of multiple Pence families throughout the country, along with an exploration of the origins of the family's place names.
