Score the paper, make a cut, and give it a fold; that’s gupit-gupit, the art of creating amazing three-dimensional sculptures. The name comes from Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines, and it means "cut cut.” Master Ben A. Gonzales, a native Filipino, illustrates all the techniques in this unique collection of paper animals--and both kids and adults will love constructing them. It’s easy: Each creature is made from only a single sheet, directions are laid out in a straightforward manner, and the nice large patterns proceed logically from simple forms to the more complicated. (The number of stars next to each project gives the level of difficulty.) Choose from a butterfly, bear, kangaroo, swan, squirrel, Tyrannosaurus rex, whale, and many others.

With more kids at home now . . . here is a book for parents, family members and friends who want to maximize this time for a deeper learning experience for their children and themselves. Free Range Learning will encourage and excite those who want their children to reap important benefits from this period of “sheltering in place,” learning at home. This is a book for anyone simply wanting some fresh ideas at this time, or those who wonder if a commitment to ongoing homeschooling might actually result in longer term benefits! The material in this book is backed by scientific and educational studies, along with the testimonies of scores of parents and kids from around the world. The work here is applicable for young people from pre-school through high school. Studies indicate that adults who were homeschooled are: * More likely to vote, volunteer and be involved in their communities than graduates of conventional schools. * Read more books than average. * More likely to have taken college level courses than the population as a whole. * Tend to be independent and self-reliant. Children are naturally “free range” learners. They build knowledge and skills naturally, within the full spectrum of their daily lives, while observing, exploring and pursuing their interests. This book guides any parent or educator in assisting that process.

There are many goddesses in every woman. For Goddess' Sake is an irreverent, funny, profound interactive guide that helps women live joyfully by embracing all goddesses within. The book encourages women to get together and form their very own goddess groups. In these groups, they can discover and experience all of their goddess archetypes, the sexy girl, the damsel, the bruiser, the smarty pants, the solo gal, the mystery woman, and more. Accessorized throughout with recipes that feed body and spirit, rituals to create with others or individually, and inspiration from ancient goddess lore, For Goddess' Sake helps readers feel the power of connecting with other women/goddesses daily. Author Hailey D.D. Klein, a self-proclaimed Aphrodite/Artemis/Cassandra/Lady of the Lake/Athena/Hecate/Persephone/Spider Woman/Hestia/St. Lucy/Lilith/Pandora, shows women how to form their own goddess groups. With the support and guidance of their groups, women explore their inner goddesses and have a lot of fun doing it. Goddesses in the group earn goddess merit badges as they discover, explore, and celebrate each goddess within. Earn your Artemis badge by truly challenging yourself--run your first 5K or join a Tai Chi class. Klein offers guidelines for creating a monthly goddess gathering--a space and place for women to meet, eat, drink, be merry or blue, ecstatic or quiet--a time and place just to be. A truly delightful, unique book, For Goddess' Sake helps any woman set her inner goddesses free on a fun-filled journey of self-discovery in the company of her sister goddesses.

Paper is readily available and inexpensive in comparison to other sculptural media, and can be manipulated with a set of simple tools. It is a tactile medium, which can be formed into three-dimensional shapes quickly and immediately through folding and cutting. This hands-on element is something I feel is important -- it allows the artist to engage immediately with the material, resulting in something physical and tangible. It is, perhaps, these factors that make it so appealing, not only as a tool to apply in different fields, such as model making for architecture, but as an activity for its own sake. A section of this book is dedicated to a selection of the techniques I use in the creation of my work, and which I demonstrate in my workshops. My aim is to show the basic principles of form-making in paper, which can then be expanded on and explored as the reader wishes. Also included are my sources of inspiration and details of my working practice, which shows the evolution of an initial idea into a final artwork. I hope this book offers an insight into my work, while offering inspiration to those who wish to explore the creative potential of paper.
