Recent advances in microsystems technology and cell culture techniques have led to the development of organ-on-chip microdevices that produce tissue-level functionality, not possible with conventional culture models, by recapitulating natural tissue architecture and microenvironmental cues within microfluidic devices. Since the physiological microenvironments in living systems are mostly microfluidic in nature, the use of microfluidic devices facilitates engineering cellular microenvironments; the microfluidic devices allow for control of local chemical gradients and dynamic mechanical forces, which play important roles in cellular viability and function. The organ-on-chip microdevices have great potential to promote drug discovery and development, to model human physiology and disease, and to replace animal models for efficacy and toxicity testing. Recently, induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells have been leveraged to develop organs-on-chips, which enable various types of organ models and disease models not possible with primary cells and cell lines. This Special Issue seeks to showcase research papers, short communications, and review articles that focus on: (1) microdevices to mimic or control cellular microenvironment; (2) microdevices to evaluate interactions between different organ models; (3) microdevices to maintain iPS cells or iPSC-derived cells; and (4) sensors and techniques to evaluate drug efficacy or toxicity.

(Reusable interview administration booklet) Based on strict DSM-IV criteria and validated in 12 years of studies, ChIPS and P-ChIPS -- the parent version of the interview -- are brief and simple to administer. Questions are succinct, simply worded, and easily understood by children and adolescents. Practitioners in clinical and research settings alike have already found ChIPS indispensable in screening for conditions such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, conduct disorder, substance abuse, phobias, anxiety disorders, stress disorders, eating disorders, mood disorders, elimination disorders, and schizophrenia. The Parent Version of the ChIPS essentially consists of the same interview text altered from second to third person to address the parent rather than the child (e.g., "Have you ever" is changed to "Has your child ever').

This stimulating discussion of a rapidly developing field is divided into two parts. The first features tutorials in textbook style providing self-contained introductions to the various areas relevant to atom chip research. Part II contains research reviews that provide an integrated account of the current state in an active area of research where atom chips are employed, and explore possible routes of future progress. Depending on the subject, the length of the review and the relative weight of the 'review' and 'outlook' parts vary, since the authors include their own personal view and style in their accounts.

Modern system-on-chip (SoC) design shows a clear trend toward integration of multiple processor cores on a single chip. Designing a multiprocessor system-on-chip (MPSOC) requires an understanding of the various design styles and techniques used in the multiprocessor. Understanding the application area of the MPSOC is also critical to making proper tradeoffs and design decisions. Multiprocessor Systems-on-Chips covers both design techniques and applications for MPSOCs. Design topics include multiprocessor architectures, processors, operating systems, compilers, methodologies, and synthesis algorithms, and application areas covered include telecommunications and multimedia. The majority of the chapters were collected from presentations made at the International Workshop on Application-Specific Multi-Processor SoC held over the past two years. The workshop assembled internationally recognized speakers on the range of topics relevant to MPSOCs. After having refined their material at the workshop, the speakers are now writing chapters and the editors are fashioning them into a unified book by making connections between chapters and developing common terminology. *Examines several different architectures and the constraints imposed on them *Discusses scheduling, real-time operating systems, and compilers *Analyzes design trade-off and decisions in telecommunications and multimedia applications

Micro- and nanosystems represent an area of major scientific and technological opportunity and challenge, with actual and potential applications in almost all fields of human activity. The aim of this book is to present the central concepts of dynamic control systems (modeling, estimation, observation, identification, feedback control) and to show how they can be adapted and applied to the development of novel very small-scale systems and their associated human interfaces. The application fields presented here come from micro- and nano-robotics, biochips, near-field microscopy (AFM and STM) and nano-systems networks. Alina Voda has assembled contributions from leading experts at top research universities to produce the first overview of the major role that control systems science will play in the development of micro and nano-science and technologies.

This is the first book of a two-volume book set which introduces software defined chips. In this book, it introduces the conceptual evolution of software defined chips from the development of integrated circuits and computing architectures. Technical principles, characteristics and key issues of software defined chips are systematically analyzed. The hardware architecture design methods are described involving architecture design primitives, hardware design spaces and agile design methods. From the perspective of the compilation system, the complete process from high-level language to configuration contexts is introduced in detail. This book is suitable for scientists and researchers in the areas of electrical and electronic engineering and computer science. Postgraduate students, practitioners and professionals in related areas are also potentially interested in the topic of this book.

How to make money investing in high-quality, low-risk stocks Purple Chips presents a unique stock-picking method based on identifying great companies based on simple visual examinations of financial health, applying three basic criteria to distinguish high-performing purple chip stocks from mere blue chip investments. The book also delves into the psychology of investing, arguing that most investors are better suited to winning small gains often and losing occasionally, rather than taking small losses often and winning big from time to time. In seven succinct chapters that feature plenty of helpful examples, graphs, and charts, author John Schwinghamer presents a simple and effective way to win with stocks.
