DOWNLOAD EBOOKInverse problems of identifying parameters and initial/boundary conditions in deterministic and stochastic partial differential equations constitute a vibrant and emerging research area that has found numerous applications. A related problem of paramount importance is the optimal control problem for stochastic differential equations. This edited volume comprises invited contributions from world-renowned researchers in the subject of control and inverse problems. There are several contributions on optimal control and inverse problems covering different aspects of the theory, numerical methods, and applications. Besides a unified presentation of the most recent and relevant developments, this volume also presents some survey articles to make the material self-contained. To maintain the highest level of scientific quality, all manuscripts have been thoroughly reviewed.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis is the first book to systematically present control theory for stochastic distributed parameter systems, a comparatively new branch of mathematical control theory. The new phenomena and difficulties arising in the study of controllability and optimal control problems for this type of system are explained in detail. Interestingly enough, one has to develop new mathematical tools to solve some problems in this field, such as the global Carleman estimate for stochastic partial differential equations and the stochastic transposition method for backward stochastic evolution equations. In a certain sense, the stochastic distributed parameter control system is the most general control system in the context of classical physics. Accordingly, studying this field may also yield valuable insights into quantum control systems. A basic grasp of functional analysis, partial differential equations, and control theory for deterministic systems is the only prerequisite for reading this book.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKFocusing on research surrounding aspects of insufficiently studied problems of estimation and optimal control of random fields, this book exposes some important aspects of those fields for systems modeled by stochastic partial differential equations. It contains many results of interest to specialists in both the theory of random fields and optimal control theory who use modern mathematical tools for resolving specific applied problems, and presents research that has not previously been covered. More generally, this book is intended for scientists, graduate, and post-graduates specializing in probability theory and mathematical statistics. The models presented describe many processes in turbulence theory, fluid mechanics, hydrology, astronomy, and meteorology, and are widely used in pattern recognition theory and parameter identification of stochastic systems. Therefore, this book may also be useful to applied mathematicians who use probability and statistical methods in the selection of useful signals subject to noise, hypothesis distinguishing, distributed parameter systems optimal control, and more. Material presented in this monograph can be used for education courses on the estimation and control theory of random fields.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKExplore Theory and Techniques to Solve Physical, Biological, and Financial Problems Since the first edition was published, there has been a surge of interest in stochastic partial differential equations (PDEs) driven by the Lévy type of noise. Stochastic Partial Differential Equations, Second Edition incorporates these recent developments and improves the presentation of material. New to the Second Edition Two sections on the Lévy type of stochastic integrals and the related stochastic differential equations in finite dimensions Discussions of Poisson random fields and related stochastic integrals, the solution of a stochastic heat equation with Poisson noise, and mild solutions to linear and nonlinear parabolic equations with Poisson noises Two sections on linear and semilinear wave equations driven by the Poisson type of noises Treatment of the Poisson stochastic integral in a Hilbert space and mild solutions of stochastic evolutions with Poisson noises Revised proofs and new theorems, such as explosive solutions of stochastic reaction diffusion equations Additional applications of stochastic PDEs to population biology and finance Updated section on parabolic equations and related elliptic problems in Gauss–Sobolev spaces The book covers basic theory as well as computational and analytical techniques to solve physical, biological, and financial problems. It first presents classical concrete problems before proceeding to a unified theory of stochastic evolution equations and describing applications, such as turbulence in fluid dynamics, a spatial population growth model in a random environment, and a stochastic model in bond market theory. The author also explores the connection of stochastic PDEs to infinite-dimensional stochastic analysis.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book aims to further develop the theory of stochastic functional inclusions and their applications for describing the solutions of the initial and boundary value problems for partial differential inclusions. The self-contained volume is designed to introduce the reader in a systematic fashion, to new methods of the stochastic optimal control theory from the very beginning. The exposition contains detailed proofs and uses new and original methods to characterize the properties of stochastic functional inclusions that, up to the present time, have only been published recently by the author. The work is divided into seven chapters, with the first two acting as an introduction, containing selected material dealing with point- and set-valued stochastic processes, and the final two devoted to applications and optimal control problems. The book presents recent and pressing issues in stochastic processes, control, differential games, optimization and their application in finance, manufacturing, queueing networks, and climate control. Written by an award-winning author in the field of stochastic differential inclusions and their application to control theory, This book is intended for students and researchers in mathematics and applications; particularly those studying optimal control theory. It is also highly relevant for students of economics and engineering. The book can also be used as a reference on stochastic differential inclusions. Knowledge of select topics in analysis and probability theory are required.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book focuses on maximum principle and verification theorem for incomplete information forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) and their applications in linear-quadratic optimal controls and mathematical finance. Lots of interesting phenomena arising from the area of mathematical finance can be described by FBSDEs. Optimal control problems of FBSDEs are theoretically important and practically relevant. A standard assumption in the literature is that the stochastic noises in the model are completely observed. However, this is rarely the case in real world situations. The optimal control problems under complete information are studied extensively. Nevertheless, very little is known about these problems when the information is not complete. The aim of this book is to fill this gap. This book is written in a style suitable for graduate students and researchers in mathematics and engineering with basic knowledge of stochastic process, optimal control and mathematical finance.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKStochastic control theory is a relatively young branch of mathematics. The beginning of its intensive development falls in the late 1950s and early 1960s. ~urin~ that period an extensive literature appeared on optimal stochastic control using the quadratic performance criterion (see references in Wonham [76]). At the same time, Girsanov [25] and Howard [26] made the first steps in constructing a general theory, based on Bellman's technique of dynamic programming, developed by him somewhat earlier [4]. Two types of engineering problems engendered two different parts of stochastic control theory. Problems of the first type are associated with multistep decision making in discrete time, and are treated in the theory of discrete stochastic dynamic programming. For more on this theory, we note in addition to the work of Howard and Bellman, mentioned above, the books by Derman [8], Mine and Osaki [55], and Dynkin and Yushkevich [12]. Another class of engineering problems which encouraged the development of the theory of stochastic control involves time continuous control of a dynamic system in the presence of random noise. The case where the system is described by a differential equation and the noise is modeled as a time continuous random process is the core of the optimal control theory of diffusion processes. This book deals with this latter theory.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe book is devoted to the study of distributed control problems governed by various nonsmooth state systems. The main questions investigated include: existence of optimal pairs, first order optimality conditions, state-constrained systems, approximation and discretization, bang-bang and regularity properties for optimal control. In order to give the reader a better overview of the domain, several sections deal with topics that do not enter directly into the announced subject: boundary control, delay differential equations. In a subject still actively developing, the methods can be more important than the results and these include: adapted penalization techniques, the singular control systems approach, the variational inequality method, the Ekeland variational principle. Some prerequisites relating to convex analysis, nonlinear operators and partial differential equations are collected in the first chapter or are supplied appropriately in the text. The monograph is intended for graduate students and for researchers interested in this area of mathematics.
