As aides need training, you can make as many copies as you want - there's no restriction when used with aides assigned from your office location. Remember that Home Health Aides must have 12 hours of in-service training every year. LESSON OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this program, the home health aide will be able to: Explain three ways the aging process affects the human body, Name two myths about aging, and Explain two ways to encourage, support, and care for aging patients. OVERVIEW The world population is aging. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the United States is on the brink of a longevity revolution. Today there are 37 million people in the United States who are 65 years or older. That number represents 13 percent of the current population and it's expected to grow to 80 million people by 2050. Today there are five million Americans older than 85; by 2050 there will be 20 million. Important questions face the healthcare industry. Who are these old people? Are they sick and disabled? Or are they relatively healthy as they age? These questions have important ramifications for homecare agencies. In order to provide aging patients the best care and the best outcomes possible, homecare aides must know the difference between reality and stereotypes. This in-service lesson looks at some of the myths of aging and talks about how home health aides can better care for their patients by understanding the aging process.

Teamwork is one of the most essential qualities for the success of any healthcare system. It has been seen that in the absence of teamwork, teams fail to perform to the best of their abilities. Home health is not about the care one individual clinician provides; it is the patient who the team exists for, and it is quality patient care that is the end result. A healthcare team that practices patient-centered care understands and believes that thinking, planning, decisions, and actions are better when done together to achieve the common goal of quality patient care. The belief that "none of us is as good as all of us" is recognized in a great team approach. We exist to serve the patient. Teamwork exists in its finest when it is recognized that each individual brings to the healthcare experience their unique beliefs, their unique values, their unique experiences, as well as their unique strengths. For a brief moment in time, the team will touch and make a difference not only in the patient's life but also in the life of each member of the team. Every member contributes and is a valuable part of the team. LESSON OBJECTIVES After completion of this program, the home health aide will be able to: Define the attributes of a team Understand the responsibilities of being a good team member Assess your team and what you can do to make it more successful Understand the contributions and responsibilities of a team member Understand the different stages of forming a team Contents of this lesson: A clearly written fact sheet A 10-question post-test to measure understanding of the subject matter An answer sheet with a place for the instructor's comments and signature An illustrative, homecare-specific case study Suggested supplemental learning activities An attendance log and certificate of completion

This lesson on Safe Transfers includes a complete training packet. Each in-service packet takes approximately one hour to complete and fully meets the Medicare in-service training requirements. As aides need training, you can make as many copies as you want - there's no restriction when used with aides assigned from your office location. Remember that Home Health Aides must have 12 hours of in-service training every year. LESSON OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this program, the home health aide will be able to: Describe different types of movement with which an aide may assist, the risks of injury, and safe methods for carrying out the movement. Identify the primary type of injury an aide might experience when transferring or lifting patients, and List three types of equipment an aide might use to help transfer or lift a patient. OVERVIEW Back injuries are the major cause of work related injury and lost work for health care workers. Home health aides are particularly prone to such injuries, because their work with patients involves frequent lifting and moving. Their work is also likely to be with the most dependent patients. Since movement is part of every activity, its risk is often overlooked. Following simple guidelines and maintaining awareness can make a big difference in patient and employee outcomes. Good body mechanics, maintaining a safe environment, and knowledge of appropriate equipment can help protect the patient as well as the aide. This in-service offers a summary of each of those, as well as practical guidance on the aide's role.

A devotee of Stendhal who has shunned the company of his fellow human beings to live on the outskirts of a tiny village in Savoy is kidnapped and left for dead along a forest road. A middle-aged mother who spends much of her time shuttling her numerous offspring along twisting mountain roads loses control of her car and ends up injured but alive in a gorge. Meanwhile, an elderly man of unbreakable habits is taunted and threatened by two unknown men while on his morning walk along the cliffs of Brittany. Mystery abounds but A Novel Bookstore is no everyday mystery. The victims here are not members of the underworld, toughs or thugs, but mild, meek and apparently ordinary people. In the eyes of their aggressors, they are guilty of only one crime: expressing their tastes in literature. Indeed, all three victims are members of The Good Novel's secret selection committee. Tucked away in a corner of Paris, The Good Novel bookstore offers its clientele literary masterpieces, both contemporary and classic, selected by a top-secret committee of authors. The store has proven an instant success, but nobody could have imagined that success would unleash a tide of hatred. Now, there are those who will stop at nothing to destroy The Good Novel. One by one, the pieces of this puzzle fall ominously into place, as it becomes clear to the store's owners, Ivan and Francesca, that their dreams of an ideal place for books may be shattered by envy and violence. Elegantly mixing the mystery and literary fiction genres, Laurence Cossé has written an enthralling fable for lovers of good books and a heartfelt tribute to fine bookselling.

A collection of thirty heartfelt, witty, and hopeful thought pieces “that highlights the humanity and multitudes of being Asian American” (Kirkus Reviews, starred), for fans of Minor Feelings. There are 23 million people, representing more than twenty countries, each with unique languages, histories, and cultures, clumped under one banner: Asian American. Though their experiences are individual, certain commonalities appear. -The pressure to perform and the weight of the model minority myth. -The proximity to whiteness (for many) and the resulting privileges. -The desexualizing, exoticizing, and fetishizing of their bodies. -The microaggressions. -The erasure and overt racism. Through a series of essays, poems, and comics, thirty creators give voice to moments that defined them and shed light on the immense diversity and complexity of the Asian American identity. Edited by CAPE and with an introduction by renowned journalist SuChin Pak, My Life: Growing Up Asian in America is a celebration of community, a call to action, and “a vital record of the Asian American experience” (Publishers Weekly). It’s the perfect gift for any occasion. Featuring contributions from bestselling authors Melissa de la Cruz, Marie Lu, and Tanaïs; journalists Amna Nawaz, Edmund Lee, and Aisha Sultan; TV and film writers Teresa Hsiao, Heather Jeng Bladt, and Nathan Ramos-Park; and industry leaders Ellen K. Pao and Aneesh Raman, among many more.
