This volume contains the articles contributed to the Minnesota Con ference on Complex Analysis (COCA). The Conference was held March 16-21, 1964, at the University of Minnesota, under the sponsorship of the U. S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research with thirty-one invited participants attending. Of these, nineteen presented their papers in person in the form of one-hour lectures. In addition, this volume con tains papers contributed by other attending participants as well as by participants who, after having planned to attend, were unable to do so. The list of particip ants, as well as the contributions to these Proceed ings, clearly do not represent a complete coverage of the activities in all fields of complex analysis. It is hoped, however, that these limitations stemming from the partly deliberate selections will allow a fairly com prehensive account of the current research in some of those areas of complex analysis that, in the editors' belief, have rapidly developed during the past decade and may remain as active in the foreseeable future as they are at the present time. In conclusion, the editors wish to thank, first of all, the participants and contributors to these Proceedings for their enthusiastic cooperation and encouragement. Our thanks are due also to the University of Min nesota, for offering the physical facilities for the Conference, and to Springer-Verlag for publishing these proceedings.

This book has as its subject the boundary value theory of holomorphic functions in several complex variables, a topic that is just now coming to the forefront of mathematical analysis. For one variable, the topic is classical and rather well understood. In several variables, the necessary understanding of holomorphic functions via partial differential equations has a recent origin, and Professor Stein's book, which emphasizes the potential-theoretic aspects of the boundary value problem, should become the standard work in the field. Originally published in 1972. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

The Kernel Function and Conformal Mapping by Stefan Bergman is a revised edition of ""The Kernel Function"". The author has made extensive changes in the original volume. The present book will be of interest not only to mathematicians, but also to engineers, physicists, and computer scientists. The applications of orthogonal functions in solving boundary value problems and conformal mappings onto canonical domains are discussed; and publications are indicated where programs for carrying out numerical work using high-speed computers can be found. The unification of methods in the theory of functions of one and several complex variables is one of the purposes of introducing the kernel function and the domains with a distinguished boundary. This approach has been extensively developed during the last two decades. This second edition of Professor Bergman's book reviews this branch of the theory including recent developments not dealt with in the first edition. The presentation of the topics is simple and presupposes only knowledge of an elementary course in the theory of analytic functions of one variable.

Several Complex Variables and the Geometry of Real Hypersurfaces covers a wide range of information from basic facts about holomorphic functions of several complex variables through deep results such as subelliptic estimates for the ?-Neumann problem on pseudoconvex domains with a real analytic boundary. The book focuses on describing the geometry of a real hypersurface in a complex vector space by understanding its relationship with ambient complex analytic varieties. You will learn how to decide whether a real hypersurface contains complex varieties, how closely such varieties can contact the hypersurface, and why it's important. The book concludes with two sets of problems: routine problems and difficult problems (many of which are unsolved). Principal prerequisites for using this book include a thorough understanding of advanced calculus and standard knowledge of complex analysis in one variable. Several Complex Variables and the Geometry of Real Hypersurfaces will be a useful text for advanced graduate students and professionals working in complex analysis.
