James William Pigg-Stannard (1791-1865) from Norwich, England, was an Educational Reformer, and Classical Schoolmaster of Mathematics and Languages. At a pivotal point in history, he championed teacher licensing, public school education for girls, pre-school for children, and the inclusion of the Holy Bible in the curriculum. As a Professor at Bourbon College in France, he taught English to many Parisians, as well as French (with the Classics, Mathematics, etc.) to scores of Approved Teachers. This second edition reproduces his original 1838 pamphlet of 42 pages, enhancing it to 90 pages, including 343 endnotes, 176 images (sketches, portraits, maps, newspaper extractions, etc.), which are fully transcribed, enabling full-text digital searches. The exhaustive index contains 87 British philosophers, clergy, educators, editors, politicians, and civic leaders, etc., to enrich the reader's experience.
