DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe effects of season and precipitacion on the crude protein, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium contents of native range grasses from sandy and red sandy loam range in south Texas were determined and these data were used to determine the critical periods of protein and mineral deficiency in beef cattle. Grasses were sampled monthly from september 1975 to august 1977; 15 grasses from the sandy site and 6 from the red sandy Loam site. Livestock grazing the grasses from the either site would probably need supplemental feeding of protein and K from december through february or early march. Year-round supplemental feeding of P, Mg, and Na would be recommended on both sites.
