Artificial intelligence and intelligent digital systems have become indispensible to many areas of modern life. This book presents the proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Novelties in Intelligent Digital Systems (NIDS2021), held in Athens, Greece, from 30 September to 1 October 2021. The conference took place as a virtual event due to COVID-19 restrictions. Neuro-symbolic AI is an emerging subfield of Artificial Intelligence that brings together two hitherto distinct approaches. ”Neuro” refers to the artificial neural networks prominent in machine learning, ”symbolic” refers to algorithmic processing on the level of meaningful symbols, prominent in knowledge representation.
