This volume contains lectures from the Graduate Summer School “Quantum Field Theory and Manifold Invariants” held at Park City Mathematics Institute 2019. The lectures span topics in topology, global analysis, and physics, and they range from introductory to cutting edge. Topics treated include mathematical gauge theory (anti-self-dual equations, Seiberg-Witten equations, Higgs bundles), classical and categorified knot invariants (Khovanov homology, Heegaard Floer homology), instanton Floer homology, invertible topological field theory, BPS states and spectral networks. This two-volume set LNAI 12748 and 12749 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, AIED 2021, held in Utrecht, The Netherlands, in June 2021.* The 40 full papers presented together with 76 short papers, 2 panels papers, 4 industry papers, 4 doctoral consortium, and 6 workshop papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 209 submissions. This report aims to 'crack the code' by deciphering the factors that hinder and facilitate girls' and women's participation, achievement and continuation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and, in particular, what the education sector can do to promote girls' and women's interest in and engagement with STEM education and ultimately STEM careers.
China in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries was a model of economic and political strength, viewed by many as the greatest empire in the world. While the importance of China to eighteenth-century English consumer culture is well documented, less so is its influence on English values. Through a careful study of the literature, drama, philosophy, and material culture of the period, this book articulates how Chinese culture influenced English ideas about virtue. Discourses of virtue were significantly shaped by the intensified trade with the East Indies. Chi-ming Yang focuses on key forms of virtue—heroism, sincerity, piety, moderation, sensibility, and patriotism—whose meanings and social importance developed in the changing economic climate of the period. She highlights the ways in which English understandings of Eastern values transformed these morals. The book is organized by type of performance—theatrical, ethnographic, and literary—and by performances of gender, identity fraud, and religious conversion. In her analysis of these works, Yang brings to light surprising connections between figures as disparate as Confucius and a Chinese Amazon and between cultural norms as far removed as Hindu reincarnation and London coffeehouse culture. Part of a new wave of cross-disciplinary scholarship, where Chinese studies meets the British eighteenth century, this novel work will appeal to scholars in a number of fields, including performance studies, East Asian studies, British literature, cultural history, gender studies, and postcolonial studies.

This book gives an extensive survey of many important topics in the theory of Hamilton–Jacobi equations with particular emphasis on modern approaches and viewpoints. Firstly, the basic well-posedness theory of viscosity solutions for first-order Hamilton–Jacobi equations is covered. Then, the homogenization theory, a very active research topic since the late 1980s but not covered in any standard textbook, is discussed in depth. Afterwards, dynamical properties of solutions, the Aubry–Mather theory, and weak Kolmogorov–Arnold–Moser (KAM) theory are studied. Both dynamical and PDE approaches are introduced to investigate these theories. Connections between homogenization, dynamical aspects, and the optimal rate of convergence in homogenization theory are given as well. The book is self-contained and is useful for a course or for references. It can also serve as a gentle introductory reference to the homogenization theory.
The International Congress on Mathematical Physics is the flagship conference in this exciting field. Convening every three years, it gives a survey on the progress achieved in all branches of mathematical physics. It also provides a superb platform to discuss challenges and new ideas. The present volume collects material from the XVIth ICMP which was held in Prague, August 2009, and features most of the plenary lectures and invited lectures in topical sessions as well as information on other parts of the congress program.
