This research study attempts to understand the relevance of crime as an indicator for the development of a resiliency plan for the Northridge area neighborhood in the City of Los Angeles, California. This study uses a mixed-methods approach including quantitative and qualitative analysis, a survey, and a community workshop to attain a better grasp of how several factors impact crime occurrence throughout different census tracts in Northridge. Findings reveal that Northridge experiences different levels of crime throughout its 28 census tracts. In addition, a regression analysis reveals a negative relationship between crime and median household income. Data gathered from the community survey indicated that crime and safety have a high level of importance in the Northridge Community. Data from the community workshop identified the relevance between property crime and earthquakes as a top priority, therefore giving crime and safety a high level of importance among the Northridge community. As a result, two recommendations are made as part of this research to increase safety for both the Northridge Community, and the Cal State Northridge campus community.
