The dialogue in 1st Chronicles 17:15-27, between David and God, is one of the most pure and genuine displays of a humble heart we are going to read in the entire Bible. David loved God ... and God loved David. David was utterly committed to the Father/son relationship he enjoyed with God. He constantly looked for God's presence in every situation of life - and this attitude was reiterated throughout his life; including those fiercely intense times on the battlefield when he was swinging his sword with all his might, stabbing into another human's body or hacking off the head of his enemy (see 1 Samuel 17:37, 45-47). David is probably the greatest example from the Old Testament of a true servant of God. Moses was great, but David's humility sets him apart and above. David was God-centered; that's the way he lived, thought, acted (mostly), sang. Today, with the occupation in our hearts by Holy Spirit, we too can be God-centered. Morning, noon and night, we can say like David: ""Lift up the Light of Your Countenance upon us, O LORD! You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and new wine abound.
