Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Excerpt from The Entomologist, 1874, Vol. 7 Against each other (as is also the case in Cynips Ter ricola), forming altogether a brown mass, on the extreme of which the outline of each separate gall is readily to be perceived. When recent this gal] is said to be succulent, but when dry its section exhibits a reddish mass of cells, divided from each other by their septa. Harting states these galls have but one cell, but on investigation I find that the smaller or pea-sized specimens possess from one to three cells, and the larger or cherry-sized galls from three to five, or in some instances as many as nine; these larger cells are ova], measurmg seven millemetres in their longest, by six mille metres in their shortest, diameter, and are enclosed in a pale yellow, softish, thinly-walled capsule, which is throughout firmly united with the substance of the gall. - G. L. Mayr. The existence of Biorhiza aptera, whose gall has been often found on the roots of oak-trees in the south of England, is liable to be shortened by the introduction of the germ of a new life within it, as it is not secure from Callimome Roboris, one of the gorgeous Chalcidiae, or metallic-coloured flies, of which much must be said afterwards - acis Walker. Excerpt from Newman's Entomologist, Vol. 6: An Illustrated Journal of British Entomology, Record of Captures and Medium for Exchange; July, 1873 Larva of Hesperia Actceon. - I visited the locality for Hesperia Actaeon this morning to try and find the pupa. I did not succeed; but I believe I was fortunate enough to find the larva. I send you six of the larvae I found, together with the pieces of the grass-blades they pulled together. I have put some grass in with them to keep them, if possible, from injury, and also for them to feed upon, if they will do so. I send you two of the most forward culms of the grass, for them to feed on, I could find - Thomas Parmiter; Kim meridge, Wareham, Dorsetshire.
