It marks the academic collaboration between the Department of Political Studies and Governance, University of the Free State, South Africa and the Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia. The conference was held on 17 March 2021 open to a global public audience. The welcome remarks were by Professor Irina Abramova, Director of the Institute for Africa Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, the Opening Remarks were by Ambassador Ilya Igorevich Rogachev, HE Mr (Ambassador of Russian Federation to South Africa) and Ambassador (Rtd) Haim Koren, HE Dr (Former Ambassador of State of Israel to Egypt and South Sudan) A video recording of the webinar was made available after the event. There has been a rigorous peer-review of the presentations published in this volume. The volume has been edited by Dr. Glen Segell (Ezri Center for Iran & Gulf States Research, University of Haifa), Dr Sergey Kostelyanets (Institute for African Studies), and Professor Hussein Solomon (University of the Free State).
