DOWNLOAD EBOOKAnnotation Implementing the Environmental Action Programme for Central and Eastern Europe As a result of increasing awareness of the dangers of lead to human health and measures to tackle urban air pollution, the use of lead additives in gasoline has been declining rapidly worldwide since the 1970s. A number of countries have completely eliminated the use of lead additives in gasoline, but in Central and Eastern Europe, lead still ranks as one of the most serious and widespread environmental hazards--yet one that is relatively inexpensive to remedy. At a major international conference on the environment held in Switzerland in 1993, fifty countries endorsed the Environmental Action Programme for Central and Eastern Europe, which addressed environmental priority issues such as lead exposure. Phasing out Lead from Gasoline in Central and Eastern Europe summarizes the findings of case studies on lead phase-out as a first-step study designed to assist in the implementation of the Environmental Action Programme. It examines major sources and levels of lead exposure in the region, looks at the costs of phasing out leaded gasoline, describes progress in reducing lead exposure over the past 5-8 years, identifies human health improvements, and draws on lessons of experience from countries in the region. One of the case studies, for example, describes in detail the complete phase-out of leaded gasoline in the Slovak Republic. Although it recognizes the importance of dealing with all significant sources of lead exposure, the study focuses on lead exposure from the exhaust of vehicles using leaded gasoline.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAs the COVID-19 crisis comes to an end, leaders, organizations, and governments have to develop a “new normal” for doing business with a focus on protecting the environment, integrating new technologies and adapting to new social changes. Based on empirical studies and conceptual contributions from researchers and practitioners presented at the Griffiths School of Management & IT’s 12th Annual Conference on Business, Entrepreneurship and Ethics (GSMAC), this proceedings volume provides a multifaceted perspective on the impact and effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on various public and private systems including education, business organizations and consumer behavior. In particular, this book explores the impact of the pandemic on remote work and employee health, sustainable development, and economic growth, among others. It also highlights the role of data analysis in understanding trends, opportunities, and challenges in the above systems.

Trudge through disgusting sewers to battle manatee-massacring mermaids and soggy cultists, creep through creepy, fog-littered cemeteries straight out of an ancient Hammer Film soundstage, confront undead lecherous lodgers and other assorted beasties, creepies, and ghoulies. It all comes down to whether an adolescent giant Automaton, a truly mad, Mad Scientist, a surly Necromancer, a Banshee's granddaughter, and a reluctant furry monster straight from under your little sister's bed can manage not to kill each other - or, at least, quit fighting over the tele-privilege-schedule long enough to get the job done! Not likely.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKBy examining all of Europe in a single study, an eminent geographer and expert on European development makes, in this volume, a unique contribution to the understanding of the changing energy relations of the European countries, east and west. The book examines the problem of establishing a reliable energy supply base in western Europe through structural changes and alternate and substitute energy sources. The volume also evaluates western European security problems arising from present and future reliance on Soviet energy and relates this to North Sea supplies of gas and oil, indigenous and import supplies, and nuclear power generation.
