A study was made of the thermal structure of the upper 800 feet of the sea by towing the NEL thermistor chain in deep water between San Diego, California, and Honolulu, Hawaii. The median vertical (slope) in temperature sections proved to be 0 degress 16 min. and the 70-percentile (slope), 0 degrees 30 min., and the significant high frequency peaks in the power spectrum of isotherm depths are more numerous in the central part of the section between Hawaii and California.
