Fifteen stories of ordinary lives that take fantastic turns Robert never quite feels at home with Cassie’s family, a gang of eccentrics including a reptile smuggler, a worshipper of Osiris, and an old woman who believes her photographs can see into the future. When he breaks up with Cassie, she is so upset that she gives him the most terrible thing she can offer: an envelope of her grandmother’s photos, which show in detail the path that Robert’s life will take. At first, this vision of the future gives him strength—but soon it becomes a prison on glossy paper. A Nebula and Hugo Award finalist, “Cassandra’s Photographs” demonstrates all the power of Lisa Goldstein’s imagination. Whether she is writing about shape-shifting aliens or kind-hearted ghosts, Goldstein’s fantasies remain grounded in reality, supported by the kind of crystalline prose that takes a lifetime to master. This collection also includes the Nebula Award finalist “Alfred.”

Tall, dark, and exceedingly handsome, how can any woman not have her eyes feast on a man who not only has those qualities but also carries himself very confidently? Mustafa had all those external qualities and much more. When our eyes locked that evening, I felt like a teenager. My heart was racing, I felt giddy, I truly felt special, and in a crazy way, it felt like I hit the jackpot. I knew he was significantly younger than me, but I did not care. I needed something exhilarating and wild in my life, and he seemed to fulfill that desire. I had no idea that the wild I had in mind was the total opposite of the wild I ended up with.

PREFACE Hello, my precious readers. Those of you who follow me closely know that I have a very exciting personality. For example, I share the title of a book that I decided to write but didn't write. Because a writer has actually written a book in his mind at that moment when he decided to write it. This writing adventure takes shape sometimes months and sometimes years after the decision-making phase. Then it comes before you. But it has a past. I am proud to be one of the dozens of writers who can fill hundreds of pages under a title. I continued my journey that I started with my book First My Father Then Çinçin Died with SERSEM. The book you are currently holding in your hands and 'THE REVOLUTIONARY IN THE SHADOW OF THE OLEUM TREE - EKREM ERBAKAN' also became my companions on my journey. I will continue writing as long as you read. Even if you don't read it, I will continue writing with the hope that you will read it one day. In this book, I shared my short stories with you, based on the place where I was born and raised. The story that gives the book its name will tell you about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, to whom I have always been grateful, from a different perspective. What kind of connection can a child in Çinçin establish with Atatürk, decades after the republic? Can he feel him so close and warm enough to hold him? No matter how much I am grateful, it would be insufficient for Atatürk and his comrades in arms who fought in the precious war of independence. I thank you a million times. May your soul rest in peace. I hope I can be a member of the Republic of Turkey worthy of you. I continue to write my own stories and shout my own story out to the world. If you read and follow me, shall we make this voice heard farther together? Then I thank you wholeheartedly for being with me on this journey. I wish you a pleasant reading. If you like it after reading it, I would be very happy if you share your appreciation on various media. I love you all very much. Please follow me on all social media platforms. We will be even closer to ask me the story of this precious journey. If we walk together, we will not get tired. I send you my love. AHMET SUAT DÜZGÜN

Boston Globe, Best 2018 Books for Children TD Canadian Children's Literature Award Finalist Mustafa and his family traveled a long way to reach their new home. Some nights Mustafa dreams about the country he used to live in, and he wakes up not knowing where he is. Then his mother takes him out to the balcony to see the moon — the same moon as in their old country. In the park, Mustafa sees ants and caterpillars and bees — they are the same, too. He encounters a “girl-with-a-cat,” who says something in a language that he can’t understand. He watches an old lady feeding birds and other children playing, but he is always looking in from the outside and he feels that he is invisible. But one day, the girl-with-the-cat beckons to him, and Mustafa begins to become part of his new world. Marie-Louise Gay’s remarkable ability to write and illustrate from the perspective of a young child is movingly exhibited in this gentle, thoughtful story about coming to feel at home in a new country.
