DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn 1988 a fresh-faced 18-year-old, Barry Ley, made his first tentative foray into the cut-throat world of timeshare sales. This book chronicles his adventures around the world, from side-splitting anecdotes of sales tactics to hair-raising tales of extortion and organised crime. It follows Barry's story from his first days as a rep in 1988 to his time in Mexico, detailing all his adventures, relationships and losses along the way. Ninety per cent of those who enter the timeshare business give it up within a fortnight, such are the pressures they face. But for those who stick it out the rewards can be sky high: the chance to earn big money, and have a bloody good time doing it. Blaggers is an insider's exposé of timeshare salesmen - the people we all love to hate - as they fast-talk and freewheel their way around one of the most ruthless marketplaces on earth.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKEmploying her insider status and trademark wit, pace and intelligence, Kate McClymont unravels the complex business relationships between Michael McGurk and Ron Medich. Rumour has it that Sydney is full of corruption and crime, but no one expected to read about a Sydney businessman being shot, in the back of his head, in his driveway, in Cremorne. Nor that, ultimately, a Point Piper millionaire would be convicted for ordering the hit. But this is not just a Sydney story. Its strands traverse Moscow, Brunei, Indonesia and Hawaii and involve property deals, fraud, conspiracy, false identities, kidnapping and a miniature Koran. There are bumbling criminals, turncoats, snitches, wealthy people brought down, and devastated families. Just prior to his murder, Michael McGurk – who had a history of violence, threats, arson charges, intimidation and failed businesses – had informed Kate McClymont, Australia’s best-known investigative journalist, that he believed there was a hit out on him. They agreed they would meet, and then he was shot. This is an extraordinary story of ten years of events that you simply could not make up.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAlthough Hopi carver Brian Honyouti (1947-2016) was deeply embedded in his culture and produced ritual artworks throughout his life, he nevertheless also created unique commercial artworks. The latter, the focus of this volume, increasingly diverged from the world view embodied in Hopi art, ceremony, and philosophy to become a new form of storytelling. While it is unlikely that anyone familiar with Hopi carvings (dolls) would look to Honyoutis artworks expecting to unearth political, social, or environmental truths and circumstances, these are, nonetheless, the messages he determined to convey. In Brian Honyouti: Hopi Carver, art historian Zena Pearlstone explores the ideas Honyouti sought to communicate through his work. She examines as well how he transmitted them by turning a traditional art form, the carved representations of katsinas, into a modernistic critique of local Native American and global concerns. It is as a result of these universal implications that Honyoutis art will endure. Because Honyoutis attachment to Hopi culture was so profound, he veiled his critical reflections with humor and imagination to avoid exposing too much to public scrutiny. Feeling that there should be a public record of his intentions, however, he set aside many of his self-imposed limitations when he agreed to collaborate with Pearlstone. It was his hope that having made his intentions public for the first time, his work would be seen as a window into Hopi life as well as a reflection of contemporary mainstream American society.
