More often than not, critics have looked upon Milton's great epic not as a literary work but rather as a theological tract or a display of Renaissance learning. In this book John Shawcross seeks to redress that critical imbalance by examining the poem for its literary values. In doing so he reveals the scope and depth of Milton's poetic craftsmanship in his control of such elements as structure, myth, style, and language; and he offers new approaches to reading Paradise Lost as a literary masterpiece rather than a relic of religious history.

The Trinity is God as revealed in the Bible. The Bible doesn't give us a systematic statement of the doctrine of the Trinity. But that doesn't mean the Trinity is not biblical. In The Biblical Trinity: Encountering the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in Scripture, Brandon D. Smith proclaims the Trinity from the Bible. The doctrine arises not from a handful of prooftexts but from the fullness of what the Bible says about God. Through short reflections on fifteen key New Testament passages, Smith shows how God's word reveals the Trinity. The book concludes with three rules for how to encounter the truth and beauty of our Triune God in all of Scripture.

Some 40 years ago, I, as a searching, seeking, questioning, mortal started with studying the Bible. The Old and New Testaments. Then, just the New Testament, then just Jesus’ Sayings. I then started to dig back into the New Testament where I found just the sayings of Mary, Joseph, John the Baptist and compared their contents and volume to Just the Sayings of Jesus... What I found led me to continue digging on into the writing letters–Epistles of Paul and Peter, etc. These excavations and Scriptural expose, which some might even call controversial, have been collected into what I call The Great Bible Dig. Dig One of The Great Bible Dig uncovers some interesting questions concerning the Brain, Life and Jesus and allows the reader to ask the question WHY. Dig Two of The Great Bible Dig uncovers Words, puzzling words as well as preserving words and allows the reader to ask the question WHAT. Dig Three of The Great Bible Dig allows one to SEARCH, His Sayings and your thinkings, and will give the reader a useful alternative for changing one's thought and thinkings. Dig Four of The Great Bible Dig allows one to SEEK His Light, His Truth and His Righteousness .

Why does God permit the great suffering and evil that we see in our world? This basic question of human existence receives a fresh answer in this book as the mystery of evil is explored in the context of the mystery of the Trinity. God's permission of evil and the way in which suffering can lead human persons into the life of the Trinity are discussed in dialogue with the great Swiss theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar. In the light of Balthasar's model of the Trinity as divine self-giving love, we gain a profound grasp of the nature of suffering in human life by placing our suffering in the context of the divine life of the Triune God.

This book draws the philosophical contribution of Martin Heidegger together with theological-spiritual insights from the East, especially that of Nikolai Berdyaev. Thus, it brings into dialogue the West with the East, and philosophy with theology. By doing so, it offers Christian theology an existential-spiritual language that is relevant and meaningful for the contemporary reader. In particular, the work explores Heidegger’s ‘being towards death’ (Sein zum Tode) as the basis for theological-philosophical thinking. Only the one who embraces ‘being towards death’ has the courage to think and poetize. This thinking, in turn, makes ‘being towards death’ possible, and in this circular movement of thinking and being, the mystery of being reveals itself and yet remains hidden. Since the work aims at demonstrating ‘being towards death’ through language, it transitions away from the common formulations and traditionally accepted ways of writing (dogmatic) theology towards an original, philosophical reflection on faith and spirituality. At different points, however, the work also retrieves the profound thoughts and theologies of the past, the insightful creativity of which cannot be denied.

The triune God of grace, James B. Torrance tirelessly insisted, is the true agent to transform worship, mission, and society. Unfortunately, the church often lapses into moralism and legalism, or exhortations and condemnations, rather than witnessing to the sole-sufficient grace of God in Christ. When we neglect the Trinity, a de facto unitarianism throws the church back onto its own existence and resources. In Christ, however, the church participates through the Spirit in union with Christ's communion with the Father. By so doing, it also participates in Christ's mission to the world. The essays of this volume articulate and extend Torrance's evangelical theology, which draws attention away from ourselves and toward the triune God who is for us and for the world.
