DOWNLOAD EBOOKWhere the sky is his ceiling and the mountains his walls, Michael Modzelewski describes his adventures as he forms unusual friendships with passing yachters, salmon fishermen, Kwakiutl Indians, loners and the owner of the house he is staying at, Will Malloff, a man of oversized personality-a healer, builder, woodsman, and thinker. Modzelewski writes with a love for nature and gentle humor about his interactions with the native animals (eagles, whales wolves), as well as local animals(cats, dogs, "tame" wild boars), and other settlers.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis is a history of the New York Yankees over a decade which saw them at the top of the American League and at the bottom. Based upon thorough background research and interviews with over 100 former players, the book covers the major stories of the period as well as some not seen elsewhere. The seventh games of the 1960 and 1962 World Series are described in detail, replete with the remembrances of many of the participants. The infamous Phil Linz harmonica incident, the fruitless search for another Mickey Mantle and the surprising emergence of Mel Stottlemyre are some of the stories that make the early '60s such a fascinating era in Yankee lore.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Text and the World is a study of an exceptionally interesting primary source - the Henryków Book - and of the local and regional world which that source reflected and helped shape. The source is a history of the Cistercian monastery in Henryków, about forty kilometers to the south of Wroclaw, in the duchy of Silesia, produced in the monastery in two sections-one completed soon after 1268, the other soon after 1310-and redacted into a single codex in the second or third decade of the fourteenth century. The earlier part of the Book is the work of Peter, the third abbot of the monastery, while the continuation was written by an anonymous monk at the same community, possibly a later abbot by the same name. The Henryków Book offers an exceptionally rich introduction to a number of subjects currently of major interest to medieval historians. It is interesting as a literary work, as an instance of forensic rhetoric, and as a type of legal argument; as an instance of biography and (implicit) autobiography. It draws on and is an example of the relationship between memory and writing, and acts as a record of lordship, power, economy, the law, social groups, communities, and institutions, in the local and regional world of the time. The Text and the World explores each of these major subjects, contextualized with the Henryków Book's contemporary diplomatic evidence.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKOne hundred years ago, the game of basketball was introduced to Rhode Island State College, a small agricultural school in the village of Kingston. The sport became the centerpiece of the college's athletic program. With the arrival in 1920 of coach Frank W. Keaney, the student body, faculty, and community embraced the teams with enthusiastic support, and a tradition of excellence was launched. With his incorporation of the fast break and the full court press, Keaney led his Rams to national prominence, with high-scoring teams and a challenge for a national championship in 1946. After the college became the University of Rhode Island in 1951, the traditions of basketball excitement and excellence continued. Conference championships, postseason bids, and All-Americans have enriched the history of Rhode Island Rams basketball, as has the introduction of full varsity status for women's basketball. Along with highlighting the teams, players, and coaches, Runnin' Rams: University of Rhode Island Basketball also portrays the exciting environment in which the games have been played.
